Much like cameltoe, there are multiple methods of avoiding a visible boner. Gaffs or dance belts are probably the easiest, but some people prefer to tuck.
Speaking of cameltoes, I’ll never understand how they happen with jeans.
I mean, I get that it’s because the pants aren’t a good fit, but wearing them for any amount of time must be literal torture, I’ve had thigh chafing from fabric and it’s hell, imagining that further up gives me nightmares.
It’s a combo of the pants being a poor fit, the pants being badly designed, and the pants being cheaply made.
Fashion industry standard drafts a single pattern for each style of pants in size 2/4/6, depending on brand, then just size it up or down without redrafting it to account for body fat distribution being uneven. So even if it’s the “correct” size, it may not actually fit your measurements. Cheap fabric tends to have less structure, and it won’t hold your body fat in as well as a fabric with a tighter weave.
You can get underwear with some padding that doesn’t squeeze around the seams if you want to avoid it.
I personally find thigh chafing to be more uncomfortable, and cameltoe is more like a front wedgie. It’s more unsightly than uncomfortable.

Sundresses are wicked lovely to wear. I can heartily recommend it to any guys who are worried about doing so.

I have heard plenty of guys say they wish that it were socially acceptable to wear them though (and whilst I’m very much an advocate of “fuck what everyone else thinks, wear what makes you happy”, dressing in a gender non-conforming manner can be actively dangerous, which is depressing for so many reasons)

Eh, I’m at a stage where the gender binary makes zero sense when it comes to appearance and socialisation. Why do women wear dresses and men don’t? Because dead people decided that men should dress one way, and women another, and we still cut about like any of that shit matters. I like to wear dresses not because I might be trans, but because I like dressing pretty. I’m a man who likes to wear swishy skirts around the house, and it doesn’t bother my wife.

I’m not a mafia boss, I wear shorts all summer (March/April through October or so) Office, doctor’s appointment, whatever. It’s shorts for me.
I used to joke that one day I’m going to walk into the Mercedes dealership wearing shorts and ask them to test drive a brand new S-Class, but my priorities have changed somewhat in the meantime so I don’t think I’ll be doing that. Not such a huge fan of their newest interiors anyway.

I mostly end up wearing band t-shirts now because my preferred style (long sleeved button downs with cool looking fabrics, rolled up sleeves - no, short sleeved button down shirts do not work they look goofy and are cut to a very different pattern. They aren’t sleek enough yes I know I’m fat and not sleek I don’t care) only comes in stupid plaid and stupider plaid. Fortunately I can get away with a sports coat over that since my current day job is musician.

The stuff I have been looking for is available at Nordstrom for like 300/shirt. Or 700/jacket I have this jacket I have been lusting over for A While Now. I have to wait for it to hit The Rack and then their discount rack and hope no one has bought the cool looking shit.
Just for clarification, i don’t really care about fashion, i prefer comfort and efficiency and bulk buying oversized t-shirts and sweatpants, shorts for summer, seem to be the absolute best for that purpose.
But, we do have the entire world at our fingertips. No need to be limited to whatever your local store offers.

I shop from both men and women’s sections, while men have better fabrics and comfy stuff the colors are depressing. I mean they do have that occasional pink shirt that’s a statement but it’s rare to have happy colors as far as i can see. Of course I’m sure it depends on the budget and what kind of stores you have access to.

example of your point because i agree with it: i was out the other day. i was out of jeans so i put on khakis. i fucking hate khakis so these are old and nasty. i had two errands. one of them was to stop by the pet store and get cat food and the shirt store i like is near there so i thought i’d poke my head in and see if they had anything i liked enough that i could pretend I had enough money to buy. (they did not. it’s been a few years)
Lisa at the shirt store, she noticed right away that i was wearing my shitty khakis. First thing she said was something remarkably rude about them, i don’t remember because fuck you Lisa you don’t treat customers like that. I already knew they were ugly that’s why i hadn’t worn them in seven years.
Now, I went to high school with Lisa and she had a reputation for, how do i put this. You know the stereotype of the lesbian who broadcasts to everyone the vitriol with which she hates men? Lisa was that but not a lesbian (that i knew of) and hated everyone. I never learned of any disability, or remarkable personal difficulty, she just hated everyone and everything.
