I’ll confess, though it will be no surprise, I am not a tech expert, I had never heard of Lemmy.zip— my belief in actual federation was on faith until you mentioned dot zip. Wow, I thought, it works.
Instagram is an absolute pain when you don’t have an account. And if you don’t like Instagram, you probably don’t have an account… which makes it extra annoying when people post Instagram links.
I still have no idea what you’re talking about, but instagram: links literally do not work on my phone and it’s annoying to be getting lots of videos and going to view them only for my phone to give an error message. Is there no https:// url that would let me see the video?
Also, I’m not talking about censoring anything. Just blocking them from my particular feed.

Try adding ‘uu’ before ‘instagram’ on the links. For example, on this one:
https://www.uuinstagram.com/reel/DPv-nqPCtkX/
Doing this will make the embed work so people don’t have to actually go to Instagram to see the video.
(It won’t work here because it’s a comment instead of the original post, but hopefully you understand what I mean.)
Looks like this method works but we lose the thumbnail. Well… perhaps it will slow the haters down?

A lot of people are really alienated by instagram and for good reason. I see our use of it here more as putting it on trial.
