@dreamless_day@General_Effort existing law do not apply to the internet for good reasons. The analogy to “existing laws” is if every tobacconist (in Italy selling cigarettes is prohibited if your younger than 18l) would ask for your ID card when entering the shop, keeping that information for some time (how much? Legal obligations may require years) and for any person entering the shop regardless of actual need (it’s pretty easy to tell if you’re above 40 for example). That would be a massive privacy concern. That’s the issue with the internet. That’s why we need good laws that regulate it.
Having said that the actual implementation seems to be a true privacy respecting implementation providing only the minimal data required for age assurance. (It has other problems, like forcing people to have a smartphone or an electronic ID card, or not being able to access services, the Android attestation which forces devices approved by Google as examples. But on the privacy side looks appropriate - even if it is yet to be deeply scrutinized)
