The U.S. practices cultural imperialism; without the tax Canadian media production would be at an inherent disadvantage, as platforms like Netflix would simply treat it as an extension of the U.S. market to the detriment of content featuring Canadian perspectives.

While most Lemmy and Piefed instances are not tolerant of hate speech (sexism, racism, transphobia, homophobia, xenophobia, etc.) disguised as ‘free speech’, most other rules are enforced at the community (subreddit) level.
In terms of picking an instance, I wouldn’t recommend lemmygrad.ml, lemmy.ml, or hexbear.net due to their extreme views. Of the remainder, I recommend choosing one from the Lemmy Federate list; those with auto-add (not discuss.tchncs.de, among others) automatically federate new communities to ensure they are searchable.
For maximum access, I also wouldn’t recommend choosing instances that are defederated from at least one other major instance (beehaw.org, lemmy.world, sh.itjust.works, lemmy.dbzer0.com, quokk.au, anarchist.nexus, feddit.org, and lemmynsfw.com; fedinsfw.app is new and seemingly not defederated yet from major instances, but might get defederated by non-NSFW instances).
Taking the above recommendations into account, this leaves us with the following Lemmy and Piefed instances with over 250 or 100 monthly active users:
[Lemmy] (250+ MAU)
[Piefed] (100+ MAU)
(tap the Lemmy/Piefed links to view the full lists)
A key point of differentiation between instances is which instances they choose to defederate; this controls which instances you’re able to find content from. You can use the Federation Checker to find this list for any given instance.
Ultimately, review the policies and focus of any given instance to find the one that suits your preferences best.

It seems like Lemmy federates post updates from Mbin slower than Piefed, for some reason, as the link shows if I log in with my Piefed account, but not my Lemmy accounts. 🤔

Can’t forget Bypass Paywalls Clean; it’s not on the official store anymore.

While I understand the motivation of wanting to support the rights of marginalized groups in society, a term that encompasses all of those groups would be far too unwieldy to be practical or readily recognized.
Solidarity between marginalized groups can be achieved with a term more marketable than an alphabet soup.

It seems like that page might not be taking into account income from other platforms though; it estimates the annual budget as being €4,000, despite the official monthly budget (as listed on their Mastodon blog as of last September) being €1,700.

The ‘unthinkable’ of installing an adblocker or using a frontend?
A bit late to the party.

If it didn’t let them influence the narrative of LGBTQ history in New York City, I’m sure they’d designate the Stonewall National Monument for removal as being ‘non-traditional’ too.

When the U.S. sends them, they don’t send their best.

It’s not that monumental, and still lower than the profits from their actions.

Stop using alts to spam Christian propaganda in unrelated communities.

Interestingly, a quick search of the name “Mongol Khan” also leads to the February 1987 NES game Flying Dragon: The Secret Scroll (the sprite in this set matches the Mongol Khan listing here). While the name ‘Mongol Khan’ is about par for the course in terms of Punch Out cultural stereotypes, I wonder if they were perhaps originally planning a crossover?
Alternatively, they could have found out that the name wasn’t unique and chose an alternate character idea instead.

Edit: The Los Angeles Times source had a consent to arbitration pop-up banner for those not using an effective ad blocker, so I switched the link to an ABC San Francisco alternative.
Without Blu-Ray, the best quality releases wouldn’t be available to pirate in the first place. Digital 4K releases often have lower bitrates, for instance.
