    1. That should be on by default.
    2. It has no features that Zed doesn’t have that I use and takes up more system resources (it’s noticeably slower).
    3. It’s far more confusing in its design with the project-pane thing which keeps constantly closing between reboots, and it has no recent-files menu section, which I rely on a lot (and if there is a plugin for this, I shouldn’t need a plugin for such a common feature).

I’ve made my decision for the time being. I am aware of Zed and can always change in the future should the need arise, but Kate frankly looked better, anyway.

  • Well… they weren’t expecting this to happen, of course.

do they still recommend arriving at the airport 2 hours early?

Idk who “they” are but I was always taught 1 hour for domestic and 2 hours for international and it has never failed that I can recall, even amid this administration’s multiple airport crises, and I’ve flown a lot recently.

Now, that doesn’t mean I didn’t encounter delays (I even had a 14-hour overnight delay or something monstrous like that, and several 2-to-4-hour delays and an entire reschedule to the next day), but they were never due to me not arriving early enough versus an issue with the plane, airport computers, weather, or runway.

  • It was kind of impossible to know how far it could go anyway; seeing the pace at which it’s been advancing, even despite all the hallucinations, has been blistering. I mean, look at me; I’m recording this partly via Whisper+ using an offline, open-source model by speech-to-text (manually cleaning it up after delivery, of course, but still). Even just 6 years ago, people would have been, like, “WTF?! How is that sorcery possible?”

Wasn’t it even just 2 years ago that it struggled big-time with legible text and kept butchering hands and fingers on visuals of generated people? Even that already is a thing of the past, which itself was incredible to even see at all right after COVID times. The speed is bewildering…

Anyway, I digressed a bit. The book Empire of AI comes to mind in terms of researchers’ intentions indeed.

  • Huh, I apparently already had this installed amid my tinkering. Thanks, but it didn’t seem to help… I had to keep clicking or alt+tabbing to the window where I wanted the hints to appear right after typing hints in the console. Then the hints displayed in a zigzag fashion with no rhyme nor reason with respective to the buttons’ location. FWIW, my display is at 200%, which may be what’s causing the mouse to overshoot the coordinates, but even the hint locations are off.

I also wasn’t expecting to have to pull up the Terminal to type “hints” and quickly Alt+Tab to the target window to generate the hints… though I suppose a keyboard shortcut could bind the script to a function key or something…
