Linux@sh.itjust.works•swayclip - clipboard manager for Wayland compositorsEnglish
4·2 days agoGood write up on the github page explaining why I would bother with it, the short version included:
In Wayland, whatever app you copied something from is the one actually holding onto that clipboard content, the compositor itself doesn’t store it. This means if you close that app, whatever you copied disappears too. swayclip fixes this by keeping its own copy of your clipboard history, and only steps in to “hold” the clipboard once the original app closes or exits.

81·2 days agoThey’ve done a lot of vowing and promising and announcing future changes lately.
How about shut up, Microsoft, and let the changelogs speak for themselves?

1·3 days agoOnce I learned to make separate partitions for root, home, EFI, and then make routine backup of my package list, the update fears evaporate. Though with how CachyOS sets up btrfs snapshots by default now, it’d be pretty hard to deep fry an install beyond repair.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Regarding the Bot Scraping situation.English
2·4 days agoYeah, especially since they want to upgrade not just maintain. I look upon my own NAS and wonder if I can even afford to maintain it if I had multi drive failure, never mind an actual storage capacity upgrade.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Regarding the Bot Scraping situation.English
3·4 days agoIf you look at your own instance’s meta community, TheDude recently posted a breakdown of 2025 and server costs. Including bot scraping and their first try at a solution. I wouldn’t say the bots were* breaking the bank but certainly were inflating costs somewhat.
I think it’s because JIT instructions are disabled on GrapheneOS for some things as an exploit protection, including patching, writing, and installing apps. I clocked it in at about 15 minutes to update Morphe’d Youtube last week. System updates too, there’s an app optimisation pass every reboot after GrapheneOS updates.
More as an FYI, I’m not complaining exactly. I’m just not sure why the ReVanced manager did the job faster.
So I will then haha. It’s cathartic to fry myself sometimes.
Any media that resonates with me, music can get me to cry pretty easily too tbh. Usually has to be something new though, familiar music doesn’t really cause me goosebumps.
When that happens usually just updating the patched apk fixes it.
Patching an APK with Morphe takes forever on GrapheneOS. Much slower than ReVanced ever was, I don’t get why.

Have you tried any 3D consoles in MAME before? I haven’t touched anything outside of the arcade cabinets and only the early 3D stuff like Rush.

Spoiler text explains how to acquire everything you need to run MAME. But that won’t answer your question because you’ll note Rayman 3 was added to the NOT Working section :P
You’d use Dolphin, the GameCube and Wii emulator, to play Rayman 3 I think.
https://wiki.dolphin-emu.org/index.php?title=Rayman_3%3A_Hoodlum_Havoc
Linux, I don’t recommend Flatpaks. Sandbox causes problems, so:
https://pkgforge-dev.github.io/Anylinux-AppImages/ or https://github.com/pkgforge-dev/Dolphin-emu-AppImage
Windows and Mac:
https://dolphin-emu.org/download/
Games are here: https://r-roms.github.io/Nintendo/nintendo-gamecube
spoiler
Firstly, games and BIOS, disc images, media for front ends, etc…the full sets are found here: https://pleasuredome.github.io/pleasuredome/mame/index.html
Use the merged torrents, even if you only download a partial torrent for a few games and their requires BIOS or whatever you want to do. Best for updating via torrent full sets. Checking an existing directory in a torrent client vs following the annoying update torrents.
Linux:
I have to explain something first: MAME is in probably most distro repositories, certainly Arch/CachyOS. However, I don’t actually like using it that way because you have to match the ROM/CHD sets to the same version as the emulator version or you get will get incompatibility errors if you have the full sets. Or may depending on the game and if the files weren’t touched, or even just rearranged between releases. This is uniquely dumb (thanks to the way MAME handles ROMS differently from everyone else) because every time you update your system then MAME gets updated but your files don’t and are then incompatible. Undesirable. So I grab a full set and then compile from source and then I don’t update anything unless something in the change logs catches my eye that I want to try.
However I have a very handy compilation website for many various AppImages including emulators like MAME: https://pkgforge-dev.github.io/Anylinux-AppImages/ so this is what I’d use if manually compiling from source isn’t in your interest.
Windows:
You can just grab the Windows MAME executable from mamedev.org as linked in OP. It already has a decent GUI built in. I also liked using the 3rd party QMC2 front end, also available on Linux. It’s outdated, but that doesn’t matter very much the front end doesn’t need to be the same version as MAME itself in this case: https://github.com/qmc2/qmc2-mame-fe
Mac: https://wiki.mamedev.org/index.php/SDL_Supported_Platforms
idk, but it’s supported.

Native Plant Gardening@mander.xyz•Been saving a lot of pawpaws on forest property set to be cleared.English
3·5 days agoSaskatoons, Alberta native species of Strawberry, Honeyberry shrubs, and two Evan’s Cherry trees are what I have for fruit so far in my backyard. I plan to add short row of Sea Buckthorn too once my end of life cherry tree dies, I think this will be its last year, I’m amazed it managed to produce fruit at all this year given how haggard the poor old bastard is lol.
Burlap probably doesn’t cut it for Pawpaw experiment/challenge. Greenhouse build long term.
