  • Commenting on the math bit, I’ve always found “order of operation” problems to be stupid and not nearly as clever as some treat them. Order of operations is one of the few things in math that seems like math but really isn’t. It’s a convention that says if you see these two operations in the same equation, this is the order you do them in. Math is only useful in context and that context is what determines what order the operations should be in, regardless of any conventions. BEDMAS is only useful because it starts with B, and B can make all the rest irrelevant.

Like if you are putting together 50 snack packs and originally start with 3 grapes but have a bunch left over and want to see if you can add 2 more grapes to each pack, you gotta add the 3 and 2 before you multiply the 50, otherwise your result will be useless. Understanding that is far more useful than basically knowing math convention trivia.

I did a math-heavy degree (CS) and the only time I can remember any reference to order of operations was in a compiler class, when talking about how to make write the compiler such that it obeys the order of operations and maybe a reference in physics classes, since physics is very heavy on math word problems.

But so many people waste time arguing about it on fb, as if it matters. Though it can be fun to watch and see some of the crazier answers.

Edit: had a reference to a line I removed, removed the reference.

Hey, when I added “I haven’t eaten any babies yet today.” to the end of my “Not great.” response, it wasn’t intended to be the reason I’m not doing great, I just wanted to reassure you that I haven’t turned to eating babies despite how ungreat my day has been. And the “yet” wasn’t because I had plans for later in the day, it’s because I can’t predict the future!

  • For a while, I was toasting sandwhiches by stacking the top bread piece under the bottom one with topings on top of it. You end up with a sandwich (with actual sandwich toppings) just toasted on the inside and soft on the outside.

I love the texture just like I loved putting plain potato chips between two pieces of bread. Soft then crunch.

  • Personally, I’d rather see crooked teeth than those swollen lips that for some reason seem to be popular with western models. No idea why, they are so offputting to me.

It really makes me wonder if either my tastes are way off from average, the beauty industry has no fucking clue what it’s doing but lies about it, or if it’s based on reality but just enough people suck at doing it in practice that there’s plenty of awful results out there that stand out while the good ones fly under the radar.

  • I’d argue that SEO was one of the biggests causes of search result degradation and consider any complaints coming from them as highly suspect due to conflicting interests. Eg, a change that makes it harder to game the search engine algorithms is good for searchers but bad for SEOs.

I hope the whole industry dies (or already is? I don’t hear much about it these days lol). They are just marketers whose whole job is to get you to look at their shit instead of the most relevant results.

  • You realize that John DiMaggio (most famous for voicing the Scotsman in Samurai Jack and Master Shake('s muscles) in Aqua Teen Hunger Force, but has also done some other notable roles such as Elzar on Futurama or Bender on Futurama and apparently like half of the shows that involve voice acting out there) voices Jake as well as Banana guards 1 and 2!?
