I’m staying in my brother’s house and there has been so many instances where something weird happened that I’m starting to think there’s indeed a presence in this house.

They all happen in the second floor and the stairs to the third floor but never in the third floor or the first one, even tho the first floor is darker and scarier. I’ve slept there many times and nothing ever happens.

Now the second floor is another story… The balcony’s door opening by itself, hearing steps when there’s no one in the house, extremely loud noises of something falling to the floor, noises of the chairs in the dining room being moved, and knocking noises on the second floor’s bedroom.

I’ve slept in that bedroom with a friend, all night long knocking noises that are too ambiguous to know where they specifically come from, sometimes the knocking is faster and then it slows down. The scariest thing is that my friend asked it to stop and it indeed stopped for a few seconds before it starting again… I swear I almost peed myself.

weird noises in houses are normal. people who live there get used to them and stop noticing. visitors notice it more.

Every time these sorts of things are studied they turn out to be just physics. Wind humming just right over pipe exhausts causing hums. Changes in temperature from day to night causing things to shift and settle will cause pipe rattle which can sound like steps through the walls and floor. If things settle just right a door would swing open too.

Every time they’re studied they’ve not once yet turned out to be paranormal.

The middle floor of the house is also the most insulated so all of those materials are the last to cool down in the night.

I’ve lived in an old house all my life, I’m used to wood shifting noises. The ones happening in this one tho are not it, the knocking happened in a very specific way, just when we said “let’s go to sleep” after a long night chat at 2am. And just when we’re going to sleep the knocking started, when my friend jokingly talked at it asking it to stop it actually stopped for a few seconds… And then it started even stronger. And tonight it was a very strong noise of something falling or being thrown, it wasn’t even the sound of wood, it was the sound of something falling against the concrete floor. We checked for anything and nothing had fallen.

The noises happening could be any number of things.

One is it’s been shown that we’re very good at incorporating input without even realizing it. A precursor to the noise may have started (such as a rumble low enough you didn’t audible register it but felt it, which has been shown to be the cause of many ghost noises), your friend could have heard this and taken him out of the mind of just hanging out subconsciously.

That or just the law of very big numbers which basically says there’s so many people doing so many things that everyone is bound to experience crazy coincidences like that eventually.

You’re right that there hasn’t ever been concrete proof of anything paranormal, and I’m not a believer, although I like to keep a healthy agnosticism and think it’s unbelievably arrogant to assume that we know even a fraction of everything that’s possible in this world. With that said, it’s totally disingenuous to say ‘every time these things have been studied it’s just physics’, because while there’s tons of examples where it has turned out to be physics, there’s also tons of phenomena that have been studied, and while no concrete paranormal proof has been found, no physical explanation has ever been found either. There’s tons of unexplained mysteries and phenomena that haven’t been conclusively disproven or debunked.

The taos hum. The hessdalen lights. The wow! Signal. The dyatlov pass incident. These are just a few that have been extensively researched, and have lots of hypotheses, but no proof of any specific scientific or physical answer. There’s many many others that have been researched and haven’t been conclusively proven or debunked one way or another.

When I quickly googled those examples they seemed to be natural or physical phenomenas with no agreed upon explanation, not phenomenas that is unproven physical, paranormal or supernatural in origin.

The way these things have happened here don’t seem like just shifting wood. It’s something that you need to be there to actually understand why we think it’s paranormal. Three of the people living in this house are doctors, we’re not superstitious people, but this is making us at least doubt. The way the balcony’s door opened by itself from the inside (you can’t open it from outside), moving furniture noises. And it’s not like this things happen when we’re alone, they happen while we’re together so we know we’re not imagining it.

Oh I don’t believe you’re imagining anything. I 100% believe you that strange things are happening but ask yourself this, what are the odds that after hundreds of years of people experiencing the exact same stuff you describe and spending millions of dollars looking for paranormal activity and finding none, and millions in bounties still out, you all are the first to actually experience real paranormal activity?

Everything you’ve described is documented and various causes exist, I only gave a few examples.

Wood and pipes and tile move a lot more than you might think and the forces can cause some really strange things to happen. Wind, humidity, normal human movement all adds on top to the stresses that cause things to shift.

Yeah that’s because studying them collapses the quantum possibilities into concrete reality and spooks all the real ghosts away

Maybe. Just remember to do the scientific method and make sure that it’s not only you that notices it. I thought I had the same a couple time in my past but putting into the scientific method and having others come over to observe it helped me learn it wasn’t supernatural but logical.

Never said you did. Just using scientific method helps figure out what’s going on. And yes. Even if it ends up as paranormal. That’s what it’s there for. To figure and understand what it is.

knocking noises that are too ambiguous to know where they specifically come from

Are they rapid? I had a woodpecker carving out a bit of the outside wall of the previous place I lived in.

As others have suggested, it could also be something about the plumbing or HVAC. It might be worthwhile to try to record some of the phenomena, analyze the data, test hypotheses.

Humans are very good at scaring themselves and each other. If these happenings are too disruptive, maybe some kind of home inspector could try to help shed some light on what is going on.

The thing about “paranormal” is that if it existed, it would just be normal. There is no supernatural, the definition of “natural” encompasses our reality.
