The whole fact that FIFA is willing to play soccer with dictators, ignore obvious human right violations and give trump a fake peace prize and over rule calls made should show that they’re a corrupt organization that should be dismantled or at least completely reorganized.

Would be nice to see them protest the corruption but for most football fans, they just really love the game. They really shouldn’t have to be in a position to protest so idk if it’s fair to say they are worse.

That being said I’m a big proponent of voting with your wallet. So maybe watch all year but skip FIFA sponsored events?

I feel like you’re trolling. No, didn’t go to one game or watch it. Not a soccer fan and I live in Seattle, one of the host cities. Not a single party attended.

I feel like the guys playing with dictators, giving out fake peace prizes and fixing games are the worst.

To be fair I don’t think I’ve ever willingly watched a football game and I still don’t think the fans are worse than the core of the issue.

I know. Most people hate thinking about their impact. Everyone wants a villain to blame because it’s easier. Don’t get me wrong there are villains for sure, but we enable and participate in the suffering.

              Y’all go ahead and downvote.

I was speaking in generalities. Modern living, particularly here in the US, comes at a cost most people willfully ignore or just don’t think about. Trumps and Musks don’t appear out of thin air. They aren’t funded by shadowy cabals, we fund them with our purchases and taxes.

It’s actually very on-brand for that organization, and the fact that people are surprised at that speaks volumes. I think they’re mostly Americans just finding out

To be honest, they awarded the event during Trump’s first term; no one in their right mind would have guessed that he would still be in office this year.

This is what irritating me the most about it. AFAIK the actual story is thus: Ref made a bad call, lots of people were upset about this call, FIFA began to review call, Trump heard about it and then made a call to the FIFA president, already in progress review concluded reversing call, life tried to move on, Trump made it about himself…

In the meantime Iran is still a thing, we’re still bombing people in the Caribbean, Cuba is still blockaded, Ukraine is still at war, and the list goes on and on and on and that’s it before we even get to the Epstein files and other shit.

The red card was not rescinded, however the accompanying 1-match ban was suspended for 12 months. Wholly unprecedented in the history of the World Cup.

Our brains are not wired to handle complex systems but it is wired for stories. The FIFA trump fiasco is easier to keep track. The issue we need to improve is how to connect the topic to the endless failure of these asshole president of ours.

I think the call was fine, and it should have stood.

Whatever, the US is out via an embarrassing loss. 🥳

Unfortunately, Mexico lost too, and my World Cup is over.

I love football. I fucking love it. But I didn’t watch one single match. Bought no merch. FIFA needs to be dismantled and reorganised under better management. But the, that’s just one person’s take.

I tried to find an in stock Verde kit but that was it. I listen and read commentary but honestly the amount of overturned bans, treatment of the Iranian team and the continued corruption of FIFA takes all the joy out of it

comments of people trying to justify their wallet supporting dictatorship, orange overlord military special operations all around the world and quietly ignoring Epstein Files are to be expected, but erasing all things above with “I just like when ball is rolling” is just shamefull.

Look into your mirrors, and say to yourself “I just care about the ball” you clowns.

He’s the fifa world peace prize winner people! He’s dedicated his life to achieving peace through football. Clearly he knows who should get a red card and who shouldn’t. If the pope corrects a priest we see it as a learning opportunity. Why so much grief for a FIFA peace prize winner correcting a ref??
