As soon as you mentioned the MC being gay, I figured that was the reason too. There are quite a few manga and anime that have inappropriate relations between teachers and students, but this one gets singled out (even if it’s not that inappropriate, looking at your comment)?

I just have watched the first few episodes of the anime and I thought it was extremely milquetoast (tbf teenage romance isn’t interesting to me but I appreciatte the old school artstyle). They didn’t show the octopus thing as it was in the manga but I got the joke. “Raunchy” definitely isn’t the word that comes to mind. I thought The Summer Hikaru Died was a bit more so. But then I’m old and I’ve seen some shit.
