I like the Trump filter. Please include one that filters posts about so-called “AI”.

There’s no such thing as artificial intelligence, those machines aren’t more intelligence than a load of bread.

Although, not that I’m thinking about it, maybe mold is more intelligent than “AI”, lol

I’m just so tired of seeing it everywhere. I wish I could just easily filter out what the current hype is… For a while it was Bitcoin, then NFTs, now it “thinking computers”…

Topics usually are the most interesting while they’re not part of a hypecycle.

I’d just like to filter out the latest hype, as it causes too much noise.

I think two vowels is a bit too common of a combination of letters to filter by that. Maybe filter for all the company and product names? Anthropic, OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, ChatGPT, Palantir…
That’s probably not going to get you all the way, but that’s going to suppress some of the news articles.

I don’t need to filter it all, I just don’t want have it look like there’s no other topic. xD

Hehe. I don’t think there’s many alternatives… Every hype will flood public discourse. That’s the nature of it (and the reason why we call something a hype, in the first place). You can mitigate a bit for this with subscribing and unsubscribing to communities. But trends will reach even the remote corners of the internet. And unsubscribing from daily news does a bit of that as well. The less social-media aspects a platform has and the more focused it is, the less random hypes we’ll get… But I’m afraid this place is modeled more with social media in mind. And the userbase reflects what’s going on in society. So we’ll get these things in most mainstream communities.

There are keyword filters that you can create from the filters page of your settings. This is tough because there are so many ways to mention this topic in tons of different contexts. The keyword filters do allow you to make filtered posts still visible, but just semi-transparent so that they aren’t as visible.

    Add a keyword filter: https://instance.tld/user/settings/filters/add

Haven’t checked much of PieFed, but if it has domain-blocking feature and you notice a given news site reports a lot on {current hype} and/or {current fad}, you could try blocking it too.

And if PieFed doesn’t have the function, you could possibly still hide such posts with Ublock Origin. Did it with Lemmy when I used mainly it and it worked well enough.

      Also, something else:
The user wjs in another comment suggested custom keyword filters too. A similar thing can be achieved with Ublock Origin filters if you wish to use it instead.
