I had to hospitalize my sister. I would have considered her to very strong of mind before she started to engage with chat gpt. She’s been out of the psychosis for 6 months and praying everyday she stays mentally sound. She still uses AI tools so her therapist and psychologist have to work really hard.

I’m sorry, that sounds really hard to have to watch a family member go through, and I’m glad her psych team is doing what they can for her. I can’t help but feel my dad would have been incredibly vulnerable to LLM sycophancy as well had he not passed before they took off.

I hope you’re taking care of yourself as well, especially if you’ve had to assume more of a caretaking role with your sister.

Thanks. I too have a therapist who is helping me manage my traumas and triggers. Hope everyone else has access to mental health professionals and are using them in this excessively bad time. Please speak to a human who has empathy and cognition, and never defer to LLMs

I just had my first IRL encounter with the ELIZA Effect a couple of days ago. Shit is getting scary out there. People have completely outsourced their cognition.
