BuyFromEU@feddit.org•My ongoing journey to replace US services with European alternativesEnglish
1·2 days agoI get what you’re saying but it’s not like it’s a small sacrifice, there’s just nothing remotely like Amazon’s customer service. I find something I want, click a button, and it arrives at my door the next day. If somethings wrong or I change my mind I can return it without having to argue at all and I can drop it off at the return place at my local supermarket.
This could be replicated by other companies but they just don’t bother. I went to order a wallet from a normal shop once and they had an Apple Pay link. I clicked it and confirmed the purchase and it grabbed my delivery details automatically and sold it for the listed price as delivery was baked into the price. They should all be like that.
About a year ago I went to buy something and found a cheaper price than on Amazon. Went to buy it and it went like this:
Force me to create an account Force me to save payment details Add tax Add delivery Add tax to delivery Add processing fee
After all this I checked again and realised that the price was now nearly double what Amazon wanted for it and it wasn’t even express delivery. So I just deleted my account and ordered from Amazon.

Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL "I will always love you" by Whitney Houston was a cover versionEnglish
5·2 days agoI knew this but Whitney’s is better.
I heard that back in the 50s kind of era people would be releasing “cover” versions of songs that were still in the charts. Apparently it wasn’t unusual to have several different versions of the same song in the top 50. I don’t know how that worked.

3·2 days agoI looked it up and apparently Gulfstream simply haven’t bothered even trying because the market’s so small it isn’t worth the expense to them.

I had an NVIDIA card when I switched to Linux about two and a half years ago and I’ve never had an issue AFAIK.

31·5 days agoI think the .5 was in my house.
I’m down with a bit of Frozen, Trolls, and many of the good ones, but I thought this one was naff. The whole story keeps telling the man character to come out to her friends and when she does she gets punished for it. Plus, none of the characters are actually likeable.

Homebrewing - Beer, Mead, Wine, Cider@sopuli.xyz•Is it mold? (More pics in body)English
2·10 days agoI’ve done both but I keep coming back to distilling for this very reason. The hardest bit can be drinking it though. For a sugar wash you’re looking at like £6 per batch and you end up with around eight bottles of 40%. I don’t want to tell too many people what I do and even those that know often don’t want to drink it because they think they’ll go blind (which we know is obviously false).

Homebrewing - Beer, Mead, Wine, Cider@sopuli.xyz•Final update on American Brown.English
3·10 days agoHow long though? It will peak at some point and then it’s all downhill after that. I usually just end up drinking pretty quickly as I run out of bottles and space to store everything (and beer in the fridge).
Flameshot is great for this. Probably overkill for many but it’s perfect if you need it for documenting things.

Games@lemmy.world•Ubisoft has cancelled 6 games, including the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake | VGCEnglish
7·12 days agoWarrior Within totally fucked up the vibe though, and the combat was rubbish. It’s a puzzle game, the fighting was just a little break, but they tried to make it too big a part.
Two Thrones was 50% SoT and 50% WW, when it should have been 99% SoT and 1% WW. The voice in your head thing from TT was pretty good, until you have to fight it.

Gaming@lemmy.zip•Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake and more cancelled by Ubisoft, with layoffs potentially on the horizonEnglish
8·12 days agoNobody’s gonna miss the SoT remake, it looked rubbish. All they had to do was tart up the graphics and flesh out the end game combat just a little and it would’ve been great. The new graphics looked so uninspired.
