Well dunno about any others but I’ve run synapse on a virtual machine on a thin client. In fact I thats how I currently run it, hypervisor on a hp t640 thin client and a ubuntu vm which is dedicated to matrix. Has served pretty me well since 2019. Same instance, been just relocating the vm to different hypervisors.

Ok, when I had to serve my obligatory service in military, how’s that calculated?

I’ve been running same ubuntu 18.04->20.04->22.04->24.04 virtual machine for matrix with synapse since 2019.

I’ve run it virtualized on multiple different thin clients, and in fact still do, on a t640. I’ve given 8gb ram and a few cores for it.

On slower cpus, such as the ones the thin clients I used before t640, loading a large room could take some time.

It takes some getting used to, but I dont think there’s gonna be ant bigger showstoppers in 2026.

What I miss from samsung is the gallery (and ocr) and some smaller inconviences. Oh and dex. Android’s baked in desktop isnt really up to dex on any scale

How the holding of the power btn works? I tried it just now and it just brought the menu for doing the lockdown/reboot/shutdown (i.e. advanced boot menu or something).

I’ve used matrix on my own server since 2019. From the get go, I knew no one will immediately hop on to another service, as people are using mainly whatsapp where I’m living. Thats why matrix is really nice, I can have all those different IMs bridged to my instance, like I had back in the day I had everything bridged to irc.

So I mostly use element to chat people on irc, matrix and on whatsapp.

Element’s awfully named. It’s not as blazingly optimized nor as good (of course!) as whatsapp or signal. But it’s good enough for my use. It’s okay.
