ADHD@lemmy.world•Recommendations on informative books?English
4·10 days agoIn terms of strategies, I’d recommend Unmasked by Ellie Middleton.
I’m currently half way through reading Scattered Minds by Gabor Maté, which is very much worthy of all the praise it receives.

movies@piefed.social•What's your favourite emotionally devastating movie?
3·10 days agoStrangely these are my favourite kind of films, as there is something cathartic about emerging from an emotional roller coaster. These films have stayed me with long after:
- Irreversible
- 21 Grams
- Never Let Me Go
- Burning
- First Reformed
- The Long Walk

Running@lemmy.world•Men and Women Are Still Racing Unequal Distances in College Running. It’s Time to Ask Why.English
6·13 days agoI’m intrigued why people are voting this down. If you took the time to read the article, you’d find it has some important points from women challenging the unequal distances:
While competing in nordic skiing and cross country for Middlebury College in the late 90s, Molly Peters noticed the event discrepancies in both sports right away after running equal distances in high school. Witnessing her nordic skiing coach, Patty Ross, advocate for equal distances in the winter sport and being met with resistance inspired Peters to take up the effort herself.
“We’re sending a message to young women that they’re not as capable, and I feel really strongly that this is something that’s so easy to change and something that women deserve. They deserve the opportunity to go out there and do the same distances as the men,” Peters said.

Running@lemmy.world•Over 100,000 pairs of running shoes now removed from landfillEnglish
10·25 days agoAccording to this article, the shoes are sorted, and where possible they are given a second life and redistributed, otherwise they are used to generate electricity.
All trainers and running shoes donated by participants will be sorted by the JogOn team to ensure they are suitable for redistribution before being sent on for reuse in the UK and overseas.
JogOn works with companies, charities and organisations that can make use of second-hand shoes, with 90% of donated shoes suitable for redistribution.
Any running shoes that are not suitable for re-use are disposed of by the JogOn team via a waste-to-energy plant where electricity is generated from incinerating waste.

London@feddit.uk•Thousands sign petition to protect London cafes from chain takeoverEnglish
21·26 days agoThese existing independent, and often family run, cafes are not expensive third wave coffee shops, if anything they are comparable to a greasy spoon. I was at Parliament Hill Cafe the other day, and from memory a flat white was around £3.80. Compare that to Daisy Green, which charges £4.30 for a flat white.

UK Politics@feddit.uk•Nigel Farage targeting six London council wins for Reform in electionsEnglish
5·29 days agoThis article is a call to action for the left to form a broad coalition to stop Reform getting elected:
He said: “Labour are going to find their vote horrendously split with the Greens and Corbyn and the Gaza independents. All these different people. There is a chance that Labour vote really gets hit.”

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Music Assistant 2.7 - Taking over the airwavesEnglish
1·1 month agoAre you referring to genre tags? If so, they’re adding that feature in version 2.8.
There is also a Don’t Stop The Music feature, however that relies on functionality from the underlying provider.
The Don’t Stop The Music (DSTM) option can be enabled if a provider is available which supports dynamic tracks (i.e. Apple, Deezer, Spotify, Subsonic, Tidal and YTM). When DSTM is on, radio mode will be automatically enabled when the last track of the queue is reached and if any dynamic tracks can be resolved from one of the providers. The added tracks will be based on the played items in the queue.
