Eine Sache fällt mir noch zum Regen ein: Ein regelmäßiges auflockern des Bodens.

Nach langer Trockenheit wird der Boden oft hart und nimmt weniger gut Wasser auf. Wenn man einmal mit der Harke drüber geht, kann der Boden das Gieß- oder Regenwasser wieder viel besser aufnehmen.
