1·5 hours agoeducation, and a bunch of other things that are actually beneficial to society they consider a waste of money
For education, at least, I agree with the majority of (non-MAGA) Conservatives. Education should be treated like food, not like roads: government should ensure everyone has access in a diverse competitive market of providers, but not be a direct producer.
50 or 100 years ago, I could much more see the argument that education is a natural geographic monopoly. Now I firmly believe that education is suffering from lack of innovation and competition.

16·1 day agoWhy why why not just use Jitsi ?
People contribute to FSF to support programmers to make important Libre products like this one and give it away , seems so wasteful for a government to fund a whole new different effort

3·2 days agoIt took me a few iterations to parse, but finally I groked the cut of your jib and noticed the reference to Musk’s X/Twitter
First – Dude, how many European or Canadian governmental entities still post on an official X account? Quite a few. We’re all working against Metcalfe’s Law here.
Second – FWIW this niche issue is one I do push on IRL. Locally there are often bills that would require our government to do things like use open source software, use open document standards, ensure all government internet services can be accessed via standards-compliant web pages (not apps that require iOS or Android), yadda. I do what I can to support those. It’s a long uphill process, but also kind of a hobby.

8·2 days agoInteresting, never heard of this till now. May become my new go-to.
Internet rabbit hole summary:
- made out of Beechwood
- subjectively ~10% softer than bamboo
- brand name is owned by an Austrian company that follows strictest Euro regulations incl:
- 95-99% closed-loop chemical re-use
- sustainable tree sourcing in European forests with neither irrigation nor pesticides
Jesus Christ, it’s like ecocide not to switch to the softer alternative.
Moreover, to my surprise, the prices are about the same. Top and bottom are each in the ~$35-45 range, or an oversize sleep shirt for ~$50-60
Down sides, apparently Bamboo:
- is sturdier
- breathes better
Anyway, ordered a identical pair off Etsy for myself and the wife. Will be fun to compare.
Thank you, Fedi Person!

Bamboo pajamas
I WFH so negl I am in jammies most of the time (yeah I throw on a corporate tshirt for the annoying “cams-on” zooms but still wearing jammie bottoms)
Wife got bamboo onesies for the baby. So soft. Then she found they also make adult jammies of the same material. Omfg. Where was this all my life till now?
You have not lived till you wear soft bamboo clothes. Worth every penny.
