FWIW, I think they pick the most influential person or persons, not the person I think is the best from the year. Hitler was person of the year and so was Trump.

askgaming@piefed.social•Do you enjoy any mobile games at all? I know most of them are stuffed with paywalls and daft monetisation tricks, but have you ever stumbled across a proper gem hiding in the rubble?
8·2 months agoI made this list by looking at the games currently on my phone and then going through my full history on the Google Play store. I’ve run Android since I first got a smartphone and it’s been mostly a game machine since then. I use a firewall to block internet traffic for most apps unless I want them to have internet. That cuts way down on ads. I’m currently using NetGuard. The list below is all the games that I both remember playing and remembered enjoying. Some of them may cost money and I got them when they were temporarily free and some of them might not be available anymore. If I have typos or if you can’t find one, let me know and I can get the actual link from my app history.

Political Weirdos @lemmy.world•Can a Republican explain this to me?
1·3 months agoThat feels like a different but related topic.
“I don’t hate this ethnic group, just the religion with which they are strongly associated.”
and
“You can’t hate that country, that’s the same as hating this ethnic group with which it is strongly associated.”
sure do feel like the same idea. Hypocrisy is one of the most difficult beasts to slay within yourself. It doesn’t seem like racists are really worried about that, though. To start from a foundation of thinking one ethnic group is superior to another, you have to be comfortable accepting arguments from emotion. There’s no way to logic someone - even yourself - out of a position that they didn’t arrive at by logic in the first place.

Political Weirdos @lemmy.world•Can a Republican explain this to me?
184·3 months agoI’m not Republican but I can - technically - explain it without racism. The word Muslim can mean adherents of Islam and it can also mean a specific ethnic group from what used to be Yugoslavia. Being anti-Islam would make you anti-Muslim (the religion) but not anti-Muslim (the ethnic group) although most ethnic Muslims are also religious Muslims.
The attack on the world trade center was carried out by an extremist Islamic group. If you subscribe to a broad scope of hate, then you would blame all Muslims (religion) for the attack. Zohran Mamdani is Muslim (religion) but not Muslim (ethnicity). If you hate him because of his religion, that by itself is not racism.
I would except that a Venn diagram of people who hate Mamdani because of his religion and people who hate him for racist reasons is virtually a circle, but there is room for a non-racist explanation of this propaganda.
5 could also be a hearth or fireplace

It’s more an explanation of the paper that originally proposed Dyson sphere, but it’s a good waych and it seems like Sam’s little quote definitely inspired it.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Has anybody noticed Whatsapp adds cleavage to thumbnails?
3·4 months agoI misunderstood your statement. I thought you meant a solid black rectangle along the entire bottom of the image. The picture you posted shows me that you mean a transparent black rectangle in the bottom left corner. The edge of that rectangle lines up exactly with where OPs apparent cleavage appears. The black shirt and their picture hid the rest of the effect. Thank you for helping me see it.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What happened that caused you to call emergency services for the first time?
3·4 months agoIt didn’t at all. Cars are very heavy - even just 1/4 of a car - but tires are squishy. It swelled quite a bit, though, and we thought it was broken.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Has anybody noticed Whatsapp adds cleavage to thumbnails?
311·4 months agoThis is not what it is. You can see the bottom of the v neck in the picture on the right. The cleavage was added to skin that was visible in the original shot. It is not skin that was below the image on the right.

What, did the Hippocrates Compensator break? Are you going to bleed out in the pattern buffer? It’s impossible to scan an electron if it has a boo-boo. Lifting them bodily on to a stretcher can’t be better than beaming them directly into a bed.
Aside from all that, though, I would love an explanation from someone who’s read the technical details invented by the showriters about why injuries impact transporter effectiveness. I genuinely want to know the in-universe explanation.
Gosh, if only there was some faster way of transporting people to sick bay…

Sure, it’ll halt the surge if they choose to follow the judge’s ruling instead of ignoring it. Yes, it’s a good and necessary action despite my expectation that it’s just one more illegal thing they’re going to do.
