You’re right, it’s not extreme/alternative on its own but it is extreme/alternative for them because of their pre-existing hatred for these things.

Because they have a porn addiction and have already spent hours upon hours scrolling through vanilla porn, it no longer does it for them and they need to find something different to get off. Usually that different thing becomes more and more extreme/alternative porn such as sexual violence, same sex porn even though they have never been attracted to the same sex before their addiction, futa and even child porn.

Have you considered the fact that your friend is secretly reactionary but knows that his beliefs are unpopular so doesn’t want to publicly voice them? I think continuing to bombard him with info will only push him further away, you cannot brute force people into being politically active or have empathy for far away peoples (i.e. Palestinians). Does your friend like history? Maybe you can talk to him about historical events without making it seem like you are lecturing/moralising.
