Even taking the Roman Catholic definition (i.e where the word martyr comes from that’s completely wrong.
They are victims not martyrs
These two categories are not mutually exclusive.
You come across as the sort of person that would berate a grieving parent for referring to their dead child as a “little angel”.
In other cultures, the word martyr carries very different meanings. These children’s families and communities consider them to be martyrs.
In the context, I think its entirely appropriate to adopt language which reflects the cultural background of the victims, and it’s frankly quite insensitive of you to be quibbling over usages.

Lol I don’t think you can compare a local powerlifting comp with the Olympics. For reference, the current record for the women’s 49kg weight class clean and jerk is 117kg. The average American man is ~90kg, which would put them in the 87kg+ weight class, where the womens record for the snatch is 140kg. I think you’d be hard pressed to find an average Joe who could snatch his bodyweight, let alone ~1.5x .
What events do you reckon an average Joe would crush? I’m struggling to think of one.
