Interesting experiment. But same idea as a tremolo bridge, but instead of springs in tension, he uses a magnet. An improvement could be the same - instead od directly pulling, he could try the hinge/lever setup like in a tremolo. Could also use mechanical advantage to make use of smaller magnets. An additional benefit is improved safety. But you would just reinvent the tremolo, only make it more expensive. Already, this sounds more or less like a floating style tremolo, but with additional floating. And increased price. And safety concerns.

Europe@feddit.org•French newspaper : Many Germans have a deep relationship with combustion cars. For them, buying a quiet electric car is emotionally hard to accept. English
81·5 days agoMany Germans - dozens even! I mean, you will always have internal combustion enthusiasts and that is ok - they should be free to practice their hobby so long as they don’t bother others too much. But I imagine they would daily drive an ev on most days if they found it more convenient and drive their hobby cars on special occasions.
Wow, this looks great aesthetically. If I ever finish my project, this will be the next one.
Not impossible, but I use bursts of about 30s max, it doesn’t even get overly hot. Otherwise, something even scarier can happen - it may case harden 😮. Jokes aside, I’ve only done it for very specific occasions, perhaps a few times in my whole life. I’d invest in a kiln or just buy dry lumber to start with.
Have you ever microwaved a piece of wood to force dry? I have and man - what a smell… I can remember it even now.

1·13 days agoIt’s hard separating a country/regime from people. One could argue regime is elected by the people. Things are not that simple, but it is the simplest way of reasoning, and thus a way most people will use when faced with such a decision. Yes - I agree, blame the system, not the people, but someone needs to be held accountable for the system as well. But further - if ever Americans need saving, they will likely need saving only from themselves, I think it’s unlikely they will ever be jeopardized by anyone other than other Americans.
I mean - any excuse for a party, I guess. But unlike Christmas, this is not nearly as culturally as important. No reason to break the tradition, but also - it’s not super important, it’s not even a holiday. I for one would be happy to switch to the new calendar for Christmas, like Greeks and Romanians. Currently, only Serbia and Russia of the Orthodox churches celebrate by old calendar.

2·18 days agoI feel like - even if legit, it’s unlikely the production can scale to any meaningful level in at least 5 years. They claim they’re releasing the bike this year with the battery. This means they have a small scale production almost ready, as bikes are fairly low volume. If true, at least, we’ll see the technology.

31·19 days agoOoof, did not know about this. I held Louis to high regard for his work and this somewhat mars his reputation. I will from now on be cautious about Louis Rosmann, though I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, provided he is more careful in the future. He’s always been a bit of an abrasive character, which is not always bad, but he needs to be held accountable, like everybody else.

Yes, but you don’t want to lock yourself in an echo chamber either. You want to be as close to reality as possible, at least I do. Though I realize that a niche federated internet community is a bad place for that. But this is the reason I don’t block communities. I used to be on lemm.ee for that reason, but it got shut down. I have no problem reading communist propaganda and deciding for myself if it’s garbage. But I have problem with censorship. Though bullying and abuse is where I draw the line. But what I see is even without algorithm based feeds, people are still polarized. Possibly because, like me, people with moderate views tend to not comment or engage, while polar opposite groups want you to firmly choose sides and denounce the other side or else you are garbage. In summary, I think it’s depressing because reality is currently depressing. But it’s unrealistic to just pretend everything is just fine and be happy.

Homebrewing - Beer, Mead, Wine, Cider@sopuli.xyz•Coca cola reverse-engineered recipe for "homebrewing"English
4·24 days agoYou make a good point. What would perhaps be interesting if we had a reliable supplier of a premixed concentrate, but with known ingredients of course. Then you order however much you need. In my country, problem is nothing other than just straight coke or coke zero is available. No green cola, no known healthier choice as far as I’m aware either. So this is an opportunity to democratize coke somewhat. Though, essential oils are also a problem to get, I can at least get them once and make a 5000 litre batch to last me a long time. And I’m primarily interested in sugar-free alternatives, say stevia or other kind of sugar fee sweetener. I already have corny kegs and beer equipment, so I figure it’s a good fit for me and others with similar equipment.

Tesla had lidar before, they decided to switch to vision-only control, presumably for hardware cost saving, but I read that this was musks decision ultimately, despite the pushback. The model s’s that had the hw on board simply stopped using it after an update.
