1·2 days agoI can’t think of anything offhand. I really like Chappell Roan – her songs just make me viscerally happy. Eleine sounds great, and I’ve loved Sia ever since I heard Titanium. But chills? No one I listen to provokes that particular reaction.

4·2 days agoOh, give it time.
I’m not sure if I should say I use linux or not:
- Gaming desktop - windows.
- Laptop - Macbook.
- Work machine (programming) - windows.
- Servers running the code I write - mostly linux.

3·2 days agoWhat’s your fav conlang? I dabbled in Esperanto on duolingo a while back.
Maybe I should have kept dabbling; about all I remember anymore is ‘hundo’.

Bingo. I replaced my water heater ~2 years ago. Then my boiler last fall. Next up is the roof this spring (probably should have scheduled it in October, but that’s water under the bridge). The dishwasher broke this weekend, too.
Most of the time it’s fine. Sometimes it all adds up, ugh.

I didn’t think I had thalassophobia until Subnautica.

…well, then again, I haven’t played anything you listed, so I can’t compare.

5·4 days agoSimilar. I played a lot of Diablo 2 back in the day, but Blizzard got a lot worse as a game publisher during the years they were focused on WoW. I’m not super interested in starting up on Diablo 3 or 4 or even Starcraft 2.
For a different direction on this – I played Subnautica. It was terrifying. I’m not going to get the expansion or Subnautica 2 when it comes out. shudder
Pretty common for food pics on lemmy IME. We’re spoiled by professional photo studio shots of food for advertisements.
Average kitchen lighting, taken with a spare potato, really just can’t compete for the visual pizzaz.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why do people who try to convince others to switch to metric focus so much on the conversions?English
7·5 days agoQuickly: No, a roll of quarters is $10. A roll of nickels won’t get you there.
Screw this, I’m going to quit counting and track down the joker who dumped all this coinage on me and box his ears with the nickel rolls.

4·7 days agoIn Minneapolis, Google maps almost always tells me to leave the parking lot from work, go down the road, and turn left onto a highway during rush hour. No lights.
The way I actually go is to turn 1 block “early” and wait at the stoplight.
Sure, in theory it would be faster to take Google’s way if there’s no traffic, but again – this is when I’m leaving work!

2·7 days agoFair enough. $300?! Yikes! For that amount you ought to be able to get a whole new dishwasher. Or maybe not, I’m not sure how much the tariffs have jacked up prices in that area.

And…well, I don’t live in a ‘right to work’ state, but I couldn’t join a union either way. There aren’t many unions in my line of work.

6·8 days agoYou can get a replacement pump for ~$50 and install it yourself in like 15 minutes. I did that a few months ago with my dishwasher. I was blown away at how easy it was.
It’s probably worth it to do one more repair before you pitch it IMO.
As for brands, I’d avoid GE. That’s what I have, and it’s been enough trouble over the past 6 years that I was tempted to replace it last fall (but I’m still glad I powered through the repair – seriously, it was SO EASY!)

Ha, fair enough! It just feels like sort of a dodge in this kind of setting with a sort of implied bias towards linux on the desktop.
