Reddit Migration@kbin.social•Updated: Reddit is quietly restoring deleted AND overwritten posts and comments
1·3 years agoI picked up a permanent ban, after 15 years for saying ‘Go outside fatso’ to someone who said I couldnt read. Not my proudest moment, but there you go.
The reason I mention it, is that it adds a different dynamic if they are trying retain (and prevent me from editing) data which they hold about me. They might argue that doesn’t extend to post where I’ve written “cats > dogs” - but anything where I’ve refered to where I live, whether I have kids, what my political views are, are all clearly personal details which they are not allowed to hold without retaining my consent.

41·3 years agoit is the unavoidable point if you insist English Lit should avoid difficult topics in order to instil the joy of reading, because literature is filled with harrowing stories of people behaving inhumanely towards one another.
at the same time, arguing that difficult topics should not be avoided but taught carefully, does not mean i do not empathise with those affected.
its fun to watch. i think a few people have taken the opportunity to take control of famous subreddit names .

26·3 years agoimagine being in the strategy meeting with your team, when they suggest a play based on suspending withdrawing food from child would go well with your voters.
imagine agreeing to go with it. getting a speech written about it and one day standing at the lectern to say in front of crowd of assembled people “it is not our responsiblity to feed children”. and then pausing for applause and going home and telling your spouse, “today went great”.
in this supply chain of inhumanity, there were so many opportunities for the heart to say “yo…something is off here…cant quite put my finger on it…but it doesnt seem…right ?.”
to sail through all those checkpoints of human decency, and go through with it, is nothing less than psychopathy.

3·3 years agoI can see why, only if it is still being taught as it was 30 years ago - ie without addressing the language used - and I hope thats not the case. I can’t imagine anyone doing so in 2023.
If you start pulling stuff for those reasons (and for the record, I dont understand why they are still reading Steinbeck anyway) you go down a slightly dodgy path.
