Privacy@programming.dev•"Why is your phone in airplane mode?"
161·3 days agoA few different reasons
- Promoting smaller instances, because of the volume of my posting it helps makes smaller instances more recognizable
- Making comms on fitting smaller instances (e.g. a programming comm id make on programming.dev)
- Mitigating against the imposter problem
- Better interconnecting smaller instances

I used to think they were AI so skipped a few on my .ml cross-posting campaign, but they have provided documentation of their workflow (https://reddthat.com/post/58923858) of which seems real enough to me and have thus resumed cross-posting as encountered. If you have reason to doubt their documentation, please share
As far as the trolling, I have had limited interaction with them but it was pleasant enough

Ofc that could change if tons of people start doing it lol

Why am I cross-posting .ml content?
I cross-post from .ml to the nearest relevant non-.ml comm to reduce the influence of .ml comms and indirectly, the instance as a whole, to help vitilize non-.ml comms and make it an easier decision for other instance admins to defederate because one key reason I identified that admins don’t want to defederate is because .ml still has some very large comms and some active niche comms.
Some highlights from the link:
.ml admin, Nutomics continued transphobia https://lemmy.world/post/29222558 The original transphobic Comment from Nutomic: https://lemmy.world/post/18236068
“If you don’t support Russia then you just don’t understand geopolitics” ~dessalines, .ml admin, dev https://lemmy.world/post/27352415

“See! nobody died IN Tiananmen Square, just AROUND it, so it doesn’t count!!” ~ Davel, .ml admin https://lemmy.world/post/30673342
“NK is actually good and anything counter to that is Western propaganda!” ~dessalines, .ml admin, dev https://lemmy.world/post/31595035
General negative sentiment to other instances who haven’t “seen the way” yet ~davel, .ml admin https://lemmy.world/post/27426510
And so so much documentation on clear heavy handed censorship and bias also on the link. So much I can’t even put them all here because this comment would be really long.
I believe the behavior of its admins (the main admins are Lemmy devs) does harm to the overall growth of the Lemmy-verse and maybe even the Thrediverse (since Lemmy kinda kicked off the Thrediverse) because of its association with the devs of Lemmy and their insistence to use .ml as their personal political platform to spread harmful propaganda
On the outside, bringing up Lemmy frequently leads to comments like “Lemmy? Isn’t that the place with a bunch of tankies?” Or “Tried Lemmy, but found it full of pro Russia crap so I left”. The best way forward from that I see is to either widely defederate from .ml like the rest of the Triad, or pressure them to put a fair and unbiased as possible admin team.
I’m so happy to be in a state with universal free lunch so my kid’s school underground markets can center around funny things and junk food lmao
But fuck were the selfish people coming out of the woodwork on nextdoor for it when it was time to vote on a tax increase (only on the “very well off” tax brackets mind you) to support it, “WhAt iF a RiCh KiD GeTs fReE FoOd”
“That Moment When”
Similar to TFW “That Feeling When”

What incentive would they have to develop a callback system
Well they don’t develop it, it’s a feature of whatever PBX/VoIP system they went with.
and use it, but delay the callbacks?
It wouldn’t be the first nonsensical business decision that businesses latch onto for reasons. You could ask 10 different call center employees and get 10 different reasons why. I’ve personally heard a few different reasons from inept managers, call center staff being paid min wage so they don’t care to people on the call back list get placed in a lower priority queue
The estimated hold time, IME it’s not the most accurate thing in the world, but probably won’t be off by whole hours
I base it off the estimated hold time it tells you, IME it’s not the most accurate thing in the world, but probably won’t be off by whole hours
You’re lucky then, every time I’ve tried I either don’t get a call back or it’s hours later when just waiting would have only been 20 minutes

While the environment is a valid argument against, “politically” is very different. Even accounting for trumpy and the right-wing nut jobs, this is still the safest period in humanities history to have kids

32·1 month agoOh, you’re referring to the crossposting from .ml comms because of their authoritarian ideology (see below)
That doesn’t apply here though, nearly all of the linux content I post is sourced and posted independently

32·1 month agoWell ig I did post a Phoronix article on it a few days ago, but in any case these aren’t “copypasta” these are reputable outlets publishing this, I just copy the first couple paragraphs of the article for posting.
So, if you have a problem with how these reputable linux news outlets are publishing it, you’ll have to take it up with them. I’m not personally writing these articles lmfao

Lol, this account isn’t banned here? Anyways, nope not a bot I just have a pushbullet notification script attached to .ml’s RSS feed
