sounds like it’s anarchy over there

The shutdown is likely to have minimal impact on pay for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers and funding for their enforcement operations, since both agencies received an infusion of cash from Congress last summer. During the government shutdown last fall, officers and agents conducting arrests continued to do so and also continued to be paid.
According to DHS’ contingency plan, last updated in September, 22,862 agency workers not in ICE or CBP could be furloughed, meaning they would not work and would not be paid until the end of the shutdown. Other workers may be instructed to continue working but without pay, and there could be pauses to other programs.
I was wondering what happens to people that are currently being held, during a shutdown. The conditions are beyond inhumane while they’re staffid, and then a shutdown happens and they get neglected even more.
It doesn’t sound like the shutdown will affect ICE/CPB’s ongoing assault, probably just going to make them far more aggressive toward innocent people during the shutdown.

Yeah, it seems like an odd chemical to focus on. Given that they’re are exposed to far more dangerous cancer causing hazards. I mean just look at Fukushima and the World Trade Center firefighters.
I know those are pretty extreme cases and obviously reducing PFAS is good. Hopefully they have decent health care especially in retirement, but after seeing the aftermath to the New York fire fighters I’m skeptical.

Depends, on what you’re trying to protect. EMV transactions are far more secure and don’t actually transmit any bank info, they’re just one time transaction hashes generated cryptographically that are only valid for a short time.
You’re more likely to come across a skimmer at a gas station that’s reads you card details of the mag stripe, or having your card leaked in a data breach.
The only time I’ve seen RFID really being attacked is red teams tricking employees to clone security badges outside office buildings. So I guess put your security badge in an RFID sleeve around your neck lol

I’ve always considered sciences like psychology to be more susceptible to the reproducibility crisis. It seems if someone decides to pursue a career in academia the criteria becomes publishing, and well publish or perish as is goes.
I think some researchers areocing towards things like prerigistering hypothesis and open data+publishing source code for calculations and using that as references in there paper so it can be updated afterwards.
They’re have definitely been a lot of papers where results were later determined to be wrong but is still referenced because well you can’t update a paper from the 1970s.
This is hearsay from friends I’ve never done any serious research or published in journals. As a side note I do enjoy reading taking a scroll through https://retractionwatch.com/
I haven’t had Facebook in I dont know how many years. It was really depressing for a few years afterwards, since I didn’t get the constant stream of updates from friends.
Facebook basically turned into the largest database of personal information of everyone on the planet. I mean remember those security questions like your mother’s maiden name, or town you grew up in, first girlfriend…Yeah I’m sure they have it.
What annoys me the most though is how so many communities still rely on Facebook/Twitter for official messaging. If there is a wildfire and I go to my counties website to look for updates, it points me to Facebook which I can’t check without an account. I bought ham radios because when there is an emergency mostly older people are on their giving updates from different cities.
Most countries are trying to move away from depending US technology companies, in my opinion if there was even some online message board local governments started for providing announcements, and had groups for like a marketplace, or just other things that would be a good step.

Just to like the radio, television, internet, etc…AI slip is here to stay, it might die down, but the cats out of the bag. I would take the same steps you would regular parental controls for tv/phone/internet if you’re concerned.
Secondly and more importantly you should be teaching your kids critical thinking skills and not to believe everything they see or hear…just like that old quote
“Believe half of what you see and nothing of what you hear.”
The reason I say that is regardless of what you think of AI, it’s good enough now to where you can grab a few minutes sound bite of someone from Facebook or YouTube and be able to imitate there voice.
This generation is going to have to be much more viligant not just about spam emails, but audio and video calls imitaing a manger or a significant other…it’s going to be very interesting

Schools have woodshop and metal shop, some even have auto mechanic classes if that’s what they want to do.
As a general curriculum though? Good luck getting a room full of teenagers to care about doorknob repair.
Tax exempt status for religions applies to federal income tax. Sales tax is per state and state taxes vary between states.
I’m not a tax account or attorney, but maybe if they keep the receipts they can file there taxes and report it and maybe get the money back.
Since taxes are filed every year is this the first year they’ve been a pastor or whatever and doesn’t know? If it is their first year and they’re complaining about taxes on apps and phones or whatever, then it sounds like theyre kind of trashy to be honest.

I didnt know this existed but I’m not surprised, I’m sure tons of them have a Noah complex.
I went to church while I was growing up, and learned that Christians believe the earth is 6000 years old.
Carbon dating of dinosaur fossils show they are millions of years old.
The response when I asked about this was that the dinosaurs died because they couldn’t fit on the ark.
Every once in awhile the pastor liked to do a sermon or whatever trying to disprove some scientific idea. They wouldn’t argue logic though, they would just pick and choose wording in an article…because that is all they know picking and choosing words in a book so confirm to their worldview.

No, having children upload facial images to verify there age??? In the age of AI and deep fakes, or I don’t know selling that data to other entries with far more nefarious purposes.
This dude doesn’t care about kids, he sent a cease and desist to someone who actually was doing something and caught six predators on the platform.
He also said Roblox could be a dating platform which is a red flag since they probably know there platform attracts child predators.
If that wasn’t enough of reason he donated $2.5M to the White House Ballroom.

I think the biggest i.paxt isn’t from self hosting necessarily but for local government/city municipals to start providing their own services.
My two biggest prices are: Internet should be a utility and not owned by like 3 companies.
Cities need there own forums/messaging board or whatever instead of Facebook/Twitter. So many cities/towns use it for official messaging, even for emergencies since I don’t have either I’m blocked.
I have a few ham radios and whenever there is some natural disaster it’s one of the few places I actually get information.

Wonder how long before Russia decide they want Alaska back.
I recently heard of it and was looking to try it. Someone else mentioned Snikket which is open source allows you to self host and has both android and iPhone apps for it.

I wonder how many people are still waiting on their million dollars Musk “offered” for votes.

Found after a quick search, I didn’t check how active they are or try and confirm any of the data. Looks like they indexed and categorized it into people, businesses, etc

They make fridges, which typically sit in a room until it decides to die. Shareholders got pissy the enormous bill for ecs doesn’t have the correct permissions
