I didn’t see anything strange when I glanced over her hands the first time, but usually when I feel the need to check in the first place it’s because my subconscious noticed it was AI right away.
I always hear “very competitive”, which in my experience means “nearly minimum wage”.
3·4 days agoReminds me of the story of the girl who worked at subway, and she would greet everyone with huge smiles except for That One Rude Guy, who got a completely neutral expression and no chat. After a few weeks of noticing his effect on her, he apologized profusely and promised to change his attitude.
You’re mostly right. They’re trendy with an app. Although their overpriced cookies aren’t great, they are fresh and therefore better than any you’d likely find on the internet.
When I was a teenager, I watched this hacking 101 show made by that Kevin guy from Tech TV and hosted on his own site. The first episode was about social engineering, no computers involved.
He demonstrated how to get free pizza. First, he awkwardly followed a family in and stood nearby as they ordered, then left with them after hearing what they got. Next he called in and was like “This sausage on the pizza we just ordered is too hard, might chip my teeth. Make me a new one.” Went in and grabbed the free pizza, then strutted out like dark spider-man.
I thought this was so smart. Told everyone who would listen to me about it. This was important! The world was my oyster.
Thought about it again a few years later “Wait, everyone knows you can get free food by being a dick to employees. Hell, the manager who gave it to him probably knew he was lying and thought making a pizza was less hassle than dealing with it. The reason not to do it all the time is because humans usually* have some sense of shame.”
*I say usually because some people simply don’t have any shame at all. I once invited someone from work out to lunch with me and my friends, and they left one small slice of pizza uneaten, asked for a box, and when it came they put their thick ass restaurant plate inside and stole it. While all of us stared on in horrified fascination.
I don’t think most people even know the term tankie exists.
About ten years ago I was going to get that one One Piece tattoo with a very close friend because we had bonded over the show and wanted to be close for life. It was a simple “X” on the forearm.
He kept laughing it off when I tried to actually coordinate getting it done, then one day he showed up and had it done alone because “he didn’t think I would do it”. Clearly didn’t want me to follow suit either.
It’s probably for the best because now it would make people think I simp for twitter and Musk. Also that guy turned out to be a real piece of shit and we no longer speak.
That time I missed the QTE and didn’t give Da Vinci a hug in Assassin’s Creed II. 😭
6·8 days agoEdit: Re-read your question, you are talking about games in general. A Switch might be a good buy, straightforward and you can usually find people willing to play in person or online for the more popular games. The games are rarely on sale though. Highly recommend a pro controller if you go this route.
For PC, there’s basically never kernel level anti-cheat, only a few frankly not great games go that route.
As far as expensive goes, there’s a ton of great PC games you can get for less than $5 during steam sale. The initial buy-in is more for a maybe $1500 PC, but you will make that up after a few dozen games. If you know a PC gaming enthusiast, imply you would play with them if you had a PC and they might sell you an old rig for dirt cheap. I’ve sold a few that way for like $100.
Set-up is easy as steam is the only program you need and controllers are plug-and-play. If you are willing to risk a little work, I found Linux Mint as an OS really easy to install and use, and then it will be future-proof (unlike windows) as well as free. You may have to troubleshoot something weird, but their forums are super helpful.

If I had read that series a few years earlier I probably would have liked it. It felt like the author just hated women, and I was just old enough to go “What the hell?”
Edit: It’s been a while, can’t remember if this is the one I’m thinking of or if I read a similar series at the same time.
I stopped using the FB marketplace for the opposite reason after briefly suffering through selling my stuff before a move. I would post “$20 couch, barely used, pickup only” and get absolutely flooded with “Can you do free? Also drop it off at my house I don’t have a car.”
As an uncle to several exclusively female children, I have been struck by how hard the little girls push traditional gender roles during play time. I’ve never seen any of their parents support such a thing, but the second the dolls come out it’s “I’m a princess and you have to save me” or “Oh, what if you just saw that she’s a pretty girl and you want to marry her!” If I put short hair on a girl doll they become incensed. Playing the Life video game I had my girl character marry a girl and that did not go over well. Her mom told me “I explained same sex relationships to her so I don’t know where this is coming from.”
Of course this is overshadowed by the unhinged narratives they construct. After saving the princess from the tower, there is usually an episode of unspeakable horror I was unprepared for. One of them has this character she calls “Knife Baby”. It’s a life sized baby doll she has taped a knife to, and we have to take care of the baby because it’s a baby and too young to be tried for its crimes, but it constantly hungers for violence. We’ll walk it around in a stroller and slowly the other dolls will disappear until I notice and ask, then I learn “Oh Knife Baby has been killing the others and burying the bodies.” I thought we were just out for a nice walk.
