We should start using the term “burnt” for someone who cooked too much and became cooked themself or for when they fail to cook.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is a fair way to split costs when my girlfriend moves in? (I own the apartment)
2·1 year agoNot a financial advisor so take my answer with a massive chunk of salt.
My suggestion would be to get a joint account. If you are comfortable paying all the bills you can also have it overdraft to your account in case of emergencies. The move money into it monthly for bills. I would round up on your bills so you could build a little nest egg at the same time. You move everything that you have been paying into it. And ask her to move what she can into it. If she feels comfortable paying 50%, then do that. If things go sideways, split any extra money by the percentage she is paying. Then if things do go sideways then you can take your piece and have a nice vacation. If they don’t, you have nice rainy day fund.
I really like the Star Wars universe. Trash and all. Could Disney do better? Yes. Could Lucas Arts have done better? Absolutely. Art is never perfect, but that is what makes the art beautiful. Perfection is boring.
But as someone who used to despise Star Wars, you really need to pay attention to the extended universe(EU) to get a more complete picture. The EU fills in all the holes that the movies/shows create, provide a better view of what the force actually is, and often provides more interesting stories by not focusing on the Skywalker saga.
I now absolutely love Star Wars only because I gave the EU a chance.

Political Memes@lemmy.world•How many goddamn wars over this do we need
2·2 years agoOh I remember the story quite well. I just read it to my kids. Yes there is the responsibility of the kid to not lie, but it also the responsibility of the town to check it out even if wolf has been called several times before. The sheep feed the town, not just the child. There are multiple morals of the story.
I’ll admit I quickly read through the article and just scanned for key points and followed the linked articles, some of which were no longer valid links. The point I was trying to make was not in the defense of Vogue themselves but in the defense of news outlets that are often ignored.
I appreciate you reading the article and providing your insight into the author’s bias. I did not wish to start an argument and I apologize if I offended.

Political Memes@lemmy.world•How many goddamn wars over this do we need
81·2 years agoThe article seems to summarize events concisely and provides links to outside references. We really shouldn’t turn our nose up to any outlet trying to share information. Even if an outlet tends to be sensationalist we should pay attention to each article as they may be breaking a story, provide more research paths, or give an insight from a point of view we miss.
With that being said I know nothing of Vogue, TeenVogue, or the author. However you never know when someone cries “wolf” if it is the real deal unless you look.

9·2 years agoIf you go to Naya Create under “Keyboards” in the menu it has the price there. $500 to start.
The menu is kind of hidden on mobile with how busy the content is.

Apple@lemmy.world•Apple won't license Masimo's patents despite Apple Watch import ban | AppleInsider
1·2 years agoThat is a valid option. However, I do not feel it is worth the investment to just purchase a watch.
To be honest when I made my initial comment I was having a bad day and reading Cook’s statement irrationally irritated me.

205·2 years ago“”There’s lots of reasons to buy the watch even without the blood oxygen sensor””.
I’m sorry but that was the entire reason I was going to trade-in my series 4 for a newer one. So I guess my series 4 that barely last 20hrs will continue to live on my nightstand. I would wear a normal watch if my health wasn’t garbage or if I could ever feel my phone vibrate when it is in my pocket.

Apple@lemmy.world•Apple won't license Masimo's patents despite Apple Watch import ban | AppleInsider
141·2 years agoI wish to play devil’s advocate for patents. But I first would like to note we need to set aside lawyers, corrupt judges, and anything else surrounding patents.
Patents were made to help the little guy out. They provide a way for someone to come up with a unique idea and protect it from larger entities that could pay to replicate manufacturing cheaply and destroy the little guy before he can make his first sale. Patents provide indisputable proof that someone had the idea first and has the right to make a living off their idea. Ergo, the American dream.
Now to jump back to reality; this entire, wonderful, system that was built to protect the American dream has been ruined by the same thing that ruins society and has pushed all of us into a late-stage capitalistic hellscape… greed.
I don’t wish to accuse Masimo or Apple of being greedy. That is a slippery slope I don’t want to visit right now. But patents are a good idea that have been taken and manipulated to protect a few pocket books.

51·2 years agoOh, I did not know that. I haven’t been following closely but I had heard it was a horrid bait-n-switch for the gameplay. I guess I could not put it past the studio to stoop that low.
I still maintain it would be cool if they open sourced the game. Asset licenses permitting.

3·2 years agoIANAL = I Am Not A Lawyer
I can’t tell if you’re making a joke or not so there is the definition of the acronym. I added the comment because AGPL may not be the best suited license for it or any similar project. But from what I can recall, AGPL also requires forks/modifications for SaaS purposes to also make their source code available. Whereas GPL, or any others from what I can tell(again not a lawyer), does not require forks/modifications for SaaS to follow the same license.

102·2 years agoJudging by screenshots, such a shame for so much hard work to go to waste. Wish they would open source it. I would suggest AGPL to protect their IP from being stolen(IANAL so don’t quote me), but I would take anything if it meant the work of talented people didn’t go to waste.
Hopefully a modding scene can thrive and make something decent from these ashes.
This is infuriating. Why not brag about it? You had the strength to keep going. Even though it may have felt like weakness or resignation in the moment, it is still strength to look forward and say “One more day won’t hurt”. I’ve been through this; I still fight through it. I understand the struggle. I hope anyone that finds themselves at my dinner table understands that I find no other achievement greater than deciding to just make it one more moment. The stigma against depression is aggravating.

TeCHnology@feddit.ch•Europe Commission says Adobe's $20B buy of Figma will kill competitionEnglish
2·3 years agoAdobe could release an open source fork of Figma at time of purchase, then sponsor the project for a set amount of time deemed fit by the EU.
However this is just pie in the sky thinking. I used to use Figma back in its early days and I loved it. After some decisions I didn’t agree with I started using Penpot. I still yearn for features from Figma and unfortunately don’t have time or money to contribute to Penpot.

Anything more intimidated me because that was getting into an artistic realm that is way outside of my comfort zone. But recently I have been doing a lot of retrospective analysis and decided that I am not going to let my comfort zone limit me anymore.

0·3 years agoThis is really cool and I can’t wait to see how far this tech goes. But I also wonder what the current effects are on aquatic ecosystems. Also if using this tech at longer ranges would harm more creatures. My knowledge of this and ocean biology is limited to say the least, so if someone could kindly fill me in if this a solved issue I would be grateful.
