Yeah, I think people are making some pretty naive assumptions about all the new datacenters popping up for AI.
What the fuck do you think the government is asking AI to do for them? Shitty cartoon artwork? Photoshopping vacation photos? Or, maaaaaaybe…I dunno…something like data collection and analysis on every byte of information sent across the tubes of the interwebs?

I’d love to see this - but not for this situation. Totally pointless. Counter-productive.
Cops got her on disorderly conduct, after the fact. Jt’s a bullshit charge. They had nothing to charge her with otherwise.
But she’s got a civil rights violation lawsuit in the bag. She’s clearly heard repeating “Am I being detained?” The officer didn’t answer and then used physical force to bring her down.
And even outside the law, the court of public opinion matters. Starting a riot by beating the shit out of a cop might not look so good. It’s 20 on 1, and he could get disoriented and fire into the crowd.
But, for the record, if you are EVER dressed as a life-sized penis and a cop asks “What am I supposed to tell my kids?”, you should answer “Tell them Trump is a dick.”
Because that’s an honest answer and there’s nothing inherently sexual about this situation. Half the world has penises, there’s naked statues and painting and pics of penises in every culture around the world. Kids can handle it.

You’re not wrong, but this isn’t a prudism problem. It’s more like a “if it offends YOU, you’re a snowflake, but if it offends ME, then you’re under arrest” problem.
She turned her back on a cop and walked away. No better way to get arrested than to remind them how small they really are.

I think you would need to first make the case that software is making the world a better place. So far, it’s got a spotty record…

Seems like more people should be upset about this, but I guess we’ve all given up on democracy.
On the bright side, at least kids in the future won’t have to memorize the Bill of Rights.

I’ll take the hit on this one. It’s me. My fault. GenX, lower middle class. (Upper lower class?)
Whatever the case, I’ve been bitching about the corrupt government since I was 18. Didn’t vote until I was over 50.
In my youth, it seemed like democracy didn’t need me. The U.S. was going in a great direction. Under Clinton (1992-2000), we had a balanced budget and started to make reforms with social issues. And yes, there was back-pedaling in the Bush (2000-2008) era, but it seemed like checks and balances were at least working. When Obama (2008-2016) held office, he had us feeling like there really WAS hope and change again. It was mostly smoke and mirrors, lip service to corporations, but it didn’t feel that way. It felt like slow progress, even as the corporate oligarchs tightened the noose.
Then, in a flash, it all changed. When Trump rolled into politics, I didn’t take him seriously. Couldn’t imagine that a sane person would choose him as a leader. And he won the election.
At that point, I registered to vote. Too fucking late. And here we are. We’ll never see a fair election again. Between gerrymandering and Citizen’s United (2010), our elections were already fucked. But now Trump will openly cheat.
It’s too late. It can’t be undone now. There’s too much money flowing into their warchest. People think the U.S. is “turning” towards authoritarianism. They don’t realize that we’re already there. All the pieces have been dropped in place. Full surveillance, a corrupt system supported by limitless corporate money, a stranglehold on the world’s energy supply, and a military budget bigger than most nations’ GDP. And, of course, ICE - Trump’s personal army.
The aggressiveness towards Iran? Nothing new. A different president might have slowly escalated things, smiling and nodding at the cameras while pressuring NATO to help. I’m reminded of Bush in 2002/3, leveraging the 9/11 to attack Iraq. It was nonsense, but Bush brought everyone along with him. He built a case with junk evidence, made grand claims of Iraq’s destructive capabilities and deposed a dictator so that the oil would flow to his cronies’ bank accounts.
Trump has pulled aside the curtain and revealed the real America. That’s all. It was about oil back then, it’s about oil today. It’s always about oil.

I recall saying the same thing on June 16 2015. If I had only known then what I know now.

I’m pretty sure that Farscape fans fall into an entirely different Venn diagram.

Not all Star Trek fans are deep thinkers.
Not many Star Wars fans are deep thinkers.
And that’s all I have to say about that.

Any thoughts you’d like to share? Knowledge you’d like to drop?
I don’t mean this in a hostile way. I can clearly infer that, in your opinion, communism does not represent an extreme viewpoint. I hope that you can likewise infer that my comments were a shorthand representation of American politics and not meant to offend anyone.

That’s the point. THAT IS THE ENTIRE POINT!
The more rules in place, the more leverage a government has on its citizens. And when that government can collect and store the data easily and cheaply, the information can easily be weaponized when needed.
In other words, it’s a way for the government to keep the population on edge. Worried about day-to-day survival instead of looking at the bigger issues, like blatant corruption and cronyism.

OR…and hear me out…there might be a new draft rule: Instead of being immediately disqualified for military service, trans folx are first investigated.
Their teachers, friends, relatives and co-workers are interviewed. Their medical history is reviewed. They are required to complete an evaluation with an Army psychologist.
Anyone found to be “faking” is charged with draft evasion (which currently carries a maximum penalty of 5 years/$250,000).
Anyone NOT found to be faking, e.g. all the “real” trans women, are now in a database. When the next piece of anti-trans legislation hits, or the next data breach happens, they will be that much more vulnerable.
Seems like a bit of a “pickme” post. You do you, don’t worry about your 2 million updoots on reddit.

Yeah…you’re going to have to remind me again what point you’re trying to make?
That democracy and democratic socialism are outliers and fated to be a footnote in the history books.
The unfortunate truth is that hate and violence almost always prevails over peace and love.
Too many people asked “can we
dosell this thing?” when they should have been asking “should wedosell this thing?”
Right now in 2026: Russia. The Middle East. Most of Africa.
Geographically speaking, half of the world is currently at war in one form or another.
Personally, I prescribe to Carlin’s philosophy. The problem will take care of itself.
Dammit! I only have 29 chickens, will this method still work?
