EndeavourOS meets all of those criteria except for the GUI package management which, admittedly, is unnatural to the Windows convert. However conquering that small, surmountable hump will unlock the AUR which imo is the real value add. There are many packages that are not included in standard repos that are included in the AUR. Regardless users can choose whatever they want. EndeavourOS is a great distro that is not complicated. It uses the calamares installer and ships with KDE. An afternoon of reading about how pacman works and installing yay/paru provides a great user experience and they will never have to do a system upgrade.

I recommend EndeavourOS to newbies because I’m biased towards Arch. I think it’s a relatively low BS distro that gets you up and running. You also have access to the AUR which is awesome.
If that seems like too much I’ve heard Linux Mint is dead simple and stable.
Just use EndeavorOS
Bonuses are typically tied to company performance
Yeah I should have said it explicitly but that’s what I was referring to. I have an org-mode / org-roam setup.
Emacs supports whatever you want and more with org-mode. It’s an upfront investment but you can use your config until you die.

DeGoogle Yourself@lemmy.ml•Why replacing Google One with a NAS didn’t work for me
21·19 天前People are trained to give their data to corporations and subscribe to everything costing them more money over the course of their lives. Selfhosting is simple nowadays particularly with projects like Umbrel out there in the market. If someone is a white collar worker under 40 “complicated” or “time-consuming” aren’t really viable excuses anymore. It’s something else.

121·19 天前Selfhosting is the best solution for everything except maybe email. I’m not sure the author of this article actually knows how to use computers.
You should get into self-hosting.

AI@lemmy.ml•Union leaders have a message for Newsom: Regulate AI if you want to be president
1·19 天前Agreed. The genie is out of the bottle and there’s no putting it back in. Also the idea that the government of all things would be good at ‘regulating’ AI is idiotic. There is now a hot war technologically to prevent a hegemon from emerging in the AI space. Meanwhile the government is going to use it to surveil us and kill people on the battlefield. It’s unstoppable. I suspect that high tech devices will be regulated like guns in the next 5-10 years. We’re already seeing it with CNC machines and 3D printers.

It’s a terrible place but it’s helped me multiple times in getting a job.
This thread is the best evidence of why Men’s groups exist.
If Americans didn’t have to compete against illicit labor they would have more bargaining power. Companies would keep illicit labor even if the minimum wage was raised because it’s a class of people willing to endure immense hardship whilst never complaining.
There’s no such thing as ‘sex work’. There is prostitution and pornographic exploitation.

They don’t have problems like this in Mongolia.
