Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•When someone's telling you something in great detail that you already know about, do you: A) patiently listen and let them finish?
4·1 day agoThey’re looking at you like you’re stupid, they’re speaking condescendingly, and they’re telling you the whole thing when you could tell it better, because you didn’t just study it in books, you have lived it & experienced it & practiced it repeatedly.
😂 How patient could you be in this situation?
Make sure you share a how-to tutorial with us.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why are americans taking health advice from a former heroin addict ?
8·1 day agoEven his own family members have said he is in no state of mind or health to be in any position of authority whatsoever.
Does Lemmy have a “depression meals” community where it would be full of posts like this?
No, officer, it’s “Hi, how ARE you?”

6·3 days agoOk but most dogs do not return to an inhospitable uncomfortable docking station. Doggo in photo is special.

News@lemmy.world•An Anonymous DC National Guardsman Tells All - “This is not what I signed up to do.”
1·3 days agoOkay well this happened like 40 years ago , and he got a good job and house and wife and kids starting 35 years ago, so he’s apparently unscathed by his AWOL shenanigans. He ran away in the middle of basic training. He couldn’t hang with it. Apparently they let it slide.

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Weird Al's advice to a fan
10·4 days agoit’s insane that in his decades-long career, no one has come remotely close to matching him
There are surely plenty of other people out there who have similar humor & talent & charisma & intelligence & musical panache and are able to put it all together in brilliant art, but you know how the musical industry is rigged, weird Al slipped in during the late 1970’s at a fortuitous time before the music industry became rigged & proprietary. He is indeed a national treasure.
There are billions of people all over the planet. Everyone has talents that most people will never see on a large scale via the media. Because the media is rigged & gatekeeper’ed these days.
I for one used to inadvertently entertain my family as I went about the household chores by singing well-known tunes but substituting the words for what’s going on in our daily lives and we all found it hilarious. That was kinda weird al-esque, he’s so relatable, we all have our quirks & sense of humor and he taps into something that we can all relate to.

Comic Strips@lemmy.world•Sunlight hog (by Poorly Drawn Lines)
3·4 days agoI had a morning like this. Everybody around me was being hostile toward me and each other for seemingly no reason at all. The first two people I woke up to were hostile to me. And it continued throughout the day. It was ridiculous. I’m glad I could make the decision about noon to retreat into my own world and shut everybody else out for the rest of the day.

News@lemmy.world•ICE has been entering homes without judicial warrants since last summer, sources say
2·4 days agoAs someone who lives in a van/RV, my perspective is wondering how ICE might approach any of their targeted people who might happen to live in vans/RVs. I wonder if the targeted individuals could just keep moving and keep evading ICE. You can’t really forcefully enter a moving vehicle to kidnap the occupants, right?
I suppose if the van/RV/whatever is parked or stopping for fuel or oil changes or vehicle maintenance or stopping to sleep or go to work to be able to afford to keep rolling, (can’t keep rolling forever) then ICE could get em in those vulnerable moments, but everything about ICE is disgustingly dystopian, terrifying, and unacceptable.

Just Post@lemmy.world•You wouldn't want Premium for free, would you?
6·4 days agoDamn, wish I knew this before I’ve been paying for YouTube premium for, like, since the beginning of when they first started extorting money out of us. I’ve had an active thriving YouTube account since 2005. I don’t exactly remember when I first started paying them money, but I guess they implemented that frogs-slowly-boiling-in-a-pot-of-water tactic. I am a boiling frog.
Albania. Noted.

4·4 days agoI knew someone who defected from the military. Wasn’t supposed to do that. Broke his contract. He’s still alive and he owns a house and he’s got a wife and kids and a good job.

Nice 👍🏼
