To offset that, make them drunk. Drunk people boil at lower temperatures than sober ones.

Karyoplasma@discuss.tchncs.detoPolitical Memes@lemmy.world•"I just don't talk politics" before giving you their Andrew Tate take
8·1 month agoI would have a hard time describing my political affiliation. I would guess “leaning libertarian-socialist”, but I don’t fully subscribe to all so IDK in which category I fit in.
- I like the idea of workers owning the means of production, but don’t like production for use (that never works). Simply remove the C-suite leeches and distribute their paycheck and parts of the profit among workers that actually produced them.
- States and governments can stay and should mainly act as a developmental/economic guide. Taxes are okay, but they have to be spent in a way that benefits the public, not bailouts for banks or corporations. They should pay for social security, roads, healthcare, schools and universities, imports/exports, stuff like that.
- I’m not foolish enough to believe that humans can behave themselves, so there needs to be a way to hold perpetrators accountable in front of a court of peers. But as long as somebody doesn’t harm or endanger someone else (or the environment because that affects everyone), they should be able to do whatever they damn please, including owning things.
- There needs to be a wealth cap. Period.
- Exceptions need to be made for goods and property that are required by everyone, like food, water and housing. Buying houses and apartments as assets is morally deplorable because all you do is enrich yourself on other’s basic needs.
- Why are private equity firms legal again?
So what am I?

politics @lemmy.world•New photos released from Epstein’s estate showing Trump, Bannon, Bill Clinton and other high-profile people | CNN Politics
19·2 months agoWell, they will be prosecuted, or at least there is the chance that they will be. Trump was already convicted of sexual assault which in other states would have been a rape charge. The problem is that he, nor “high-profile people” will ever spend even a single day in the prison cell they belong into.
They got caught sleeping on the job, that’s for sure.

Fediverse memes@feddit.uk•Probably not how it worksEnglish
231·2 months agoThere literally should just be a cap. Make it something ridiculous like “billionaires are not allowed to exist, so everything you earn past $999,999,999.99 is public property” and I don’t see any way how someone could disagree with this other than wanting to be a malicious parasite. That is more than enough money to buy a yacht for your yacht and is also an amount of money that cannot be legitimately obtained.

History Memes@piefed.social•Pick-up line for Ancient Egyptians
20·2 months agoFun fact. Hieroglyphs can be written left-to-right or right-to-left. You have to distinguish the direction they should be read by the facing of the animal/creature/human used as a character. They will always “look” towards the beginning of the sentence, so in the depicted case, the intended direction is left-to-right.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Aliens could prank earth by double thanos snapping all gold
8·2 months agoYes, Thanos snaps are multiplicative.
But I think we can establish that objects get eliminated in their entirety and not on an atomic scale, or else the snap should have killed way more than half of the people considering that about half their cells just committed sudoku.
Btw if it worked on an atomic scale:
We assume Thanos only wants to snap the gold that has use for humans. We mined around 210,000 tonnes of gold and known reserves of gold hold another roughly 80,000 tonnes. That makes 290,000 tonnes total. 290,000 tonnes of gold have around 8.87 * 10^32 gold atoms, so Thanos would need to snap on average log_2(8.87*10^32) + 2 = 112 times to eradicate all of that gold.
Note that the total amount of gold on Earth is much larger than that (unknown deposits, deeps in the crust, in the core), but that would get rid of the stuff we actually care about.

News@lemmy.world•Young Girls Were Sexually Abused by a Church Member. They Were Told to Forgive and Forget.
30·3 months agoI’ll preface this with that I’m not a believing Christian, I don’t even believe in God. But I grew up with religious grand-parents and also had religious education since childhood from talking to our town priest at various summer camps that were organized and supervised by the church. I was that weird kid that always asked too many questions.
It’s one of those attempts at bible-thumping that is just abhorrent and completely wrong.
In Christian belief (more strongly held to by catholic branches of Christianity), Jesus endured torture, insults and death and in return, he only wished for salvation for everyone (including the people insulting, torturing and killing him). Jesus did this because he knew that the only entity that is allowed to judge you is God and God will judge you when you die and by enduring the atrocities committed against him, he showed faith in God’s fair judgement.
Technically, that means that seeking revenge or justice for a crime committed against you is equal to not trusting in God to judge your perpetrator(s) fairly in afterlife and as such is not living the example that Jesus gave. Instead, you should forgive and pray and hope that your abuser will understand and repent his wrongdoings.
It does however not transfer their sin onto you, you are committing a different sin in doing so, so they keep their sin of being a childfucker, so what these kooks are saying is baloney. It’s also entirely unchristian to demand absolution from anyone but God and it’s a sin doing so. As a victim, it’s also allowed to think about and voice your anger and frustration of crimes committed against you, you should just not act upon your anger irrationally. Suing somebody for damages is not irrational, telling them to fuck off and never come near you ever again is not irrational, so they are plainly wrong.
“Don’t hold me to or judge me for what I said” is a deeply narcissistic trait.
Don’t pee on jellyfish stings by the way. It’s unsanitary and doesn’t help.

We do not know because Fahrenheit didn’t document it, and i wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t keep track of it through his test runs either. He didn’t say which salt and how much of it in how much water, no purity indication, no nothing. He was a craftsman, not a chemist and made the scale to sell his, I concede, at the time superior thermometers. He basically vibe coded a scale in the 1700s.
But that’s all just hogwash, Fahrenheit today is literally defined through Celsius, so the US uses a metric scale but with a factor and an offset they pulled out of their ass to make it more rollercoaster like the rest of the units they like. The same as pretty much every unit they use: inch is defined through meters, pound via kilogram, just butchered for the vibes of yore. Good for them.
