1·2 months ago“Protected” from discrimination, etc. I understand what you mean. Maybe that’s not a great word to use in this case, but it’s not lawful to use that grouping method for these purposes — good or bad. It can (and has) been used to worsen such a demographic’s situation instead of help.

1·2 months agoPerhaps, but what are you getting at?
If it’s that they’re white and born in the USA, it doesn’t matter. If they’re Latino because of ancestry, it’s well established in US law that that’s covered by “national origin.” They’re still a protected group.

8·3 months agoThe applicable laws protect “language minorities” or discuss “race, color, or national origin.” The race vs ethnicity argument isn’t legally relevant since the scope is broader than that.
I remember! There were several. This is a different one, I think, but someone converted one of them to HTML5:

2·3 months agoI start work at 9:00 most days, as do most of my coworkers. Earlier this month, at 6:54 one morning, I was emailed an invitation for a meeting at 8:00. I was later asked why I didn’t attend.
I’m not sure if I’d say I was angry, but I definitely wasn’t happy about it. That’s not just an email, to be fair, but still feels like it counts.
I wasn’t the one you asked, but: dryers tend to take much longer than washers — sometimes twice as long. I frequently find myself leaving wet clothes in the washer while I wait for the previous dryer load to finish, so that I can then put another load in the washer.
In short: so you never have to wait for a dryer to finish and thus can sustain maximum laundry throughput.

World News@lemmy.world•EU weighs ban on veggie 'burger' and 'sausage' labelsEnglish
82·4 months agoWhy should vegans not be able to make and eat the same recipes/foods as everyone else? There are countless reasons to replace individual ingredients vs inventing a whole new set of foods. People are increasingly into these products for some reason (myself included). Healthiness is another issue, but that’s always going to be a concern for all lifestyles.

2·4 months agoThere are also specialized tools for breaking car windows that you can keep in your glove compartment for emergencies.
Definitely do this! I have bought these for myself and all of my family members thanks to the Mythbusters car submerging episode and news stories like these.
But also, be aware that they may not work at all on modern cars as many have switched to laminated glass for the side windows. Even Adam Savage has spoken about how this invalidates his recommendations and makes cars less safe in certain circumstances.

Recently saw this on Lemmy, too. https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/post/35078257
This is a result of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 226, “Ejection Mitigation” in the US. It doesn’t explicitly require laminated glass, but the requirements it imposes leave basically no alternative.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.ca•What term describes the relationship between two points on the same axis, like im assuming thats the opposite of orthogonal?English
3·7 months agoTwo points on the same axis would be collinear: they lie on the same line (the shared axis). Any curves or other shapes between them would need their own classification.
Adjacent or they’re on a spectrum or gradient or something?
Adjacency describes being neighbors, like adjacent sides of a polygon sharing a vertex. This is inapplicable to just a pair of points.
Gradients are slopes/rate of change. The points are both on the same axis (there is no slope), and it’s only two points, so this probably isn’t what you want.
Spectrums are just ranges of values. These points could lie within a spectrum or define a spectrum’s range, but that’s not a description of their relative geometric relationship, just a way to use it.
