  • My guess is they’re the late reddit accounts when reddit is already big and shit. They weren’t around when reddit was just “small digg”. Tbf I wasn’t there as well.

I was there when reddit already have comments for posts and remember imgur is the image hosting site for reddit (with no culture and community of its own. Until the reddit file cabinet suddenly gained “sentience”).

I suspect it’s most likely those that cried about lemmy’s “bad UI” only joined after reddit turned into the vomit inducing non chronologically sorted reddit.

Side note I have never browsed r/all ever, but I concede it’s a necessity for the threadiverse. But it’s all just for me to further curate what I want to see. I was never into whatever dogfood sorting spyware algos tried to force down.

Though I admit it took me several tries to understand federation and how it works.

  • On top of what others have said, I’m going to recommend piefed to my friends when they want to jump in because of the built in on boarding.

From the start it’ll show you and let you pick what topics you might like to see (so sort of like multireddit that groups together similarly themed communities into one feed / group), and shows what you want to filter and partially hide and or outright block posts with certain terms. It just kickstarts someone new so quickly with what they would want to see rather than going to all view and swim through a lot of posts that might turn you off of Lemmy/mbin/piefed.

And like you said Lemmy and piefed still federates with each other so still can leverage the content already existed.

And later on you could create your own topics/grouped communities just like multireddits.

  • Are you on a Samsung phone? If yes you can check out the good lock module home up. That enables a lot of customization options on the Samsung stock launcher.

Although I can’t vouch for it since I sometimes use either Niagara launcher or kvaesitso.

The former is a simple minimalist launcher of just having 8 quick apps and a list of apps that’s easily searchable or use alphabetical quick scroll. You can kind of make folders in it, but I don’t have the words to describe how. They do it differently than nova. I’m really just giving a quick summary; there’s a bit more to it if you want a change.

Sorry that I don’t have a close 1:1 nova replacement. I just didn’t use it since way back when I got it for a dollar or something stupidly low. Something just didn’t click.

Kvaesitso is also a semi change than nova launcher. No folders for apps though. But it has a dedicated infitine vertically scrolling page for widgets. The app drawer have a section separate for pinned apps and most used apps, before showing the whole app drawer (and doesn’t “hide” the pinned and most used apps like some launchers do).

  • I’m personally waiting for the 1.0 / Deep North update to go back to playing it. But even when I stopped playing because of just getting bored with it, 2 years ago according to Steam, it’s a good game already with complete mechanics. And there are quality of life mods you can add on top of the configs you can do in the base game when setting up a world.

Even solo, as someone that usually gets bored with open world survival games, it has enough draw for me to have 1 - 2 hours gaming sessions for a month straight.
