Good question, when doing puzzles on lichess.org or chess.com or other platforms you’ll just have to keep going until it says you’re done. Sometimes it can feel a little arbitrary, but usually it’s the end of a forced sequence of moves. Here I just did not bother to keep going, because again it is now trivial and the “puzzley” part is over after you take back the queen and are up a piece.
What do you mean black does not lose the queen? Either black takes the rook on e6 and it gets recaptured with the bishop or the king moves up like in your screenshot and white takes the queen with the rook and is now up two pieces even.
Yes, it is not forced checkmate in a few moves, but black will lose their queen and white will just end with an extra bishop versus King and pawns. The resulting endgame position should be pretty trivial to win by just eating some pawns with the bishop and then promoting one of your own.
Chess puzzles don’t always end in checkmate, often it is enough to just win a piece and gain a clear advantage. The phrase “… to move and win” is a little confusing tho, you’re right

1·27 days agoHaha, funny idea. But the cool thing about Lichess is their transparency. You can see the whole cost break down at https://lichess.org/costs and even see exactly how much their employees make. I am actually surprised how “little” their lead developer earns for a Senior Lead Developer, given some of the wages in tech.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Job offer at digital forensics company - am I overreacting?
71·30 days agoInteresting approach, but I don’t think I would fill an high enough position to really have such intel. My aspirations are not high enough for that. And as I said in another company, this company is mostly doing setup and consulting, so I doubt I would have any knowledge on how these tools would be (ab)used in the field. Also, does not sound great for mental health, to just “hope” to witness something bad and becoming a whistleblower…

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Job offer at digital forensics company - am I overreacting?
1·30 days agobut would you rather someone who doesn’t respect privacy (e.g. a department inside the police force) does this job?
This is where the problem lies. The company does not so much do the investigations themselves, but rather provide, setup, install the tools to agencies like a police department and consults them on it. So it sounds like I would not really have any control over how these tools will be used or abused later on…

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Job offer at digital forensics company - am I overreacting?
2·30 days agoI don’t have any experience in it. But the company I am talking about - if I understood correctly - is not exactly developing super specific forensic tools itself. Rather it bundles multiple available tools, creates some kind of “overlay” application on top of them, sells them to agencies and most of all consults them on how to use everything. The position was for a python/full stack web developer, not really in digital forensics per se, I guess that’s why

Chess@feddit.org•Reverse Puzzle: What must have been the last move for each player for this position to be reached legallyEnglish
2·2 months agoHowever, since f3 is also covered by black’s bishop, it is impossible for white’s king to have been on that square before that ;) The very specific set of constraints make it so that this puzzle should really just have a single objective solution. (Solution is in the spoiler tag in the post body)

New Communities@lemmy.world•Chess - since the existing commuity seems dead and hosted on .mlEnglish
18·3 months agoGood to know, thanks. I do think having an obvious name is important when trying to grow a community, I have never heard of woodpusher before as a term for chess, so idk. But I’ll subscribe and check it out. I agree that the number of users is pretty low, so the chance of this failing is pretty high, but just wanted to try anyway :) Also the anarchy chess community at !anarchychess@sopuli.xyz does have over 6k subscribers and is at least a little bit active, so there should be some users around

14·3 months agoI simply chose feddit.org, because it is my home instance and I am very happy with how it is being maintained and taken care for (i.e. see https://feddit.org/post/25348485 or https://feddit.org/post/5050805). It is operated by a non-profit organization (https://fediverse.foundation/) and Lemmy.world already seems like the biggest instance, so in the spirit of decentralization I think it makes sense to spread the content out a little.
Not too sure about lemmy.ml, I know the political views of some of the admin are at least questionable and in general it seems quite political, which I don’t really need for a chess community

I’ve been using FitoTrack recently: https://codeberg.org/jannis/FitoTrack
Available on the AppStore and F-Droid
Tracking and logging/history and statistics works flawlessly for me so far, the rest of the app is quite minimalistic, but I like that, not every app needs to be a bloated social media network imho
Don’t think there’s any self hosting possible or rather necessary since it’s all locally anyway as far as I see but it has an option for exporting the data and creating automatic backups

This allows rook takes rook on H4 with a discovered check losing back the queen in addition to the rook and being down two pieces at the end
