Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What balance do you find between constantly bettering yourself, vs just chilling?
6·24 days agoDepends on your perspective. I consider taking time to read a book or doing some gardening to be bettering oneself. A 5am run would benefit me to be in better shape, but it deprives me of an hour of sleep.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is something about how people view or use technology that needs to die?
111·1 month agoA lot of tech evolves and changes quickly, and a whole lot of people just dont like change, especially as they get older. It is also harder to learn new things as you get older. While it doesn’t apply across the board, the “can’t teach an old dog” addage generally holds true. This is not something that will go away. If you dont want to become that person, continue to exercise your brain as you age, and learning new tricks will be easier.

The person that was there taking care of the parents, getting them to doctor appointments and taking time off work to provide for them while everyone else was absent physically and/or financially. Nobody else cared when they were alive, they dont get to care now that they are dead.
Don’t forget the massive gambling problem.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How many of you actually do sports betting with FanDuel and DraftKings?
7·3 months agoNo, I dont and won’t use them. The worst part about these apps is that I now question the legitimacy of sports. I am not confident that the athletes are able to resist the temptation to throw a game.

2·3 months agoThe states have to get their revenue from somewhere. For NH, it’s corporate taxes and property taxes. It’s a problem, and they’re looking to raise government fees in 2026 to generate more revenue.

I always thought it was Jedi sarcasm. It has damage all over, not in just a couple of key areas.
It comes from Wōdnesdæg, for the Germanic god Woden, aka Odin. I prefer Odin’s Day myself.

Cooking @lemmy.world•I have dyspraxia can you guide me buying a liquid measurer?
11·5 months agoI agree that weight is the best way to go, however not all recipes use weight and some conversions do not work well. An adjustable measuring device like this may help: https://www.oxo.com/2-cup-adjustable-measuring-cup.html
If people don’t understand a phenomenon, they have a tendency to attribute it to something else equally unexplainable.
A diploma does not create opportunities, but not having one will close doors. I know because I don’t have one. If it will only take a year, get the degree if it doesn’t break the bank. Otherwise, stay employed and stay relevant with current tech by getting/renewing certifications every couple of years.

I need insurance too, so finding a job with benefits is important. I didn’t say the changes were easy. I have jumped from the frying pan into the fire, so mistakes have been made and i have learned from them. Change takes a lot of hard work and perseverance, but worth it in the end.
