Soulslike - Discussion, News, Memes@lemmy.zip•[Discussion] What's your Soulslike origin story?
3·3 days agoI had a bunch of friends talking about DS1 and I tried it, wasnt positive I liked how hard it was. Then I got to undeadburg and spent HOURS trying to beat Havel and the torus demon both. I ended up leveling to 60 in undeadburg. And after that, I did more of the same by getting stuck at hellkite drake. I eventually got the helkite drake sword and tried using that until I got to S&O. I was not smart, but i was dedicated.
Ive been calling them goons instead. Not because of any reasoning, its just what me and my friends have been using

Soulslike - Discussion, News, Memes@lemmy.zip•[Discussion] Open worlds in Soulslikes: yay or nay?
2·5 days agoNay. Elden ring is good and works pretty well, but it still has a lot of empty space. Being able to access 70% of the map without killing a single enemy is neat, to an extent, but ultimately leads to a loss of clarity for new players, and the ability to skip large swaths of content through minor negligence.
I much prefer the crafted gauntlet of dark souls 1 and 3. There is simply too much in Elden Ring for me to ever feel like I will master the game, whereas in dark souls 1, I can venture with confidence, as turn familiar corners and always know what I will find.

Television@piefed.social•Brandon Sanderson is taking notes from Tolkien and Game of Thrones for The Stormlight Archive TV Series
4·7 days agoThe cosmere has reached its halfway point. Mistborn era 1 is done. Mistborn era 2 is done. Stormlight is halfway done, and there is a sizeable gap between book 5 and the next book to be published, though it wont be enough to count as a separate era, most likely
Unfortunately we need to count on liberals to free us from FPTP
Solarpunk is the fiction, the ideal. What China is doing in this regard is 1 version of an attempt to achieve it, and that’s great! Its not the only path forward and there is room for critique of every attempt.
As an anarchist, I would like less authoritarianism actually. But, as a solarpunk enthusiast and environmentalist, im in favor of this action by China. I believe that actions towards solarpunk and actions against government systems i dont like should be handled separately

48·15 days agoRen and Stimpy should never have been created. The best thing to ever happen to it was canceling it. It should stay dead.
Renewable energy is still a commodity because we still don’t have enough renewable capacity to take care of all our energy needs. When renewable capacity hits 90%, you are going to see a massive shift in how energy is thought about

Climate@slrpnk.net•Australia proves that solar can be easy and widely adopted1·17 days agoIm very pro rooftop for this reason. The most efficient place to generate electricity is where it will be used. The more transmission you need, the higher the cost. If the majority of energy is generated at the point of use, or close to it, transmission lines are only needed to balance out the margins
