2·9 months agoAh playing it again, I remember why it didn’t make my roundup lol. No idea what to call this: it slaps for sure, but you’re right: tech death it ain’t

1·10 months agoHonorable mention, maybe straddles tech death and deathcore but it’s an absolute jam: Ben’s Raincoat - Radiant Cliffs

2·1 year agoOh interesting! I hadn’t followed closely enough to catch the single, I’ll have to revisit. I agree though: Eschaton was my favorite album of the week
Edit: opps forgot RoN was in the same week. That takes it, although it’s not as pure tech as Eschaton

2·1 year agotbh I almost slept on it because I haven’t listened to them since I was first exploring the world of death metal (including black metal, grindcore, etc.), and stumbled into Demigod, but ffs the title track slapppps, very catchy

Technical Death Metal@lemmy.world•Looking for published reviews of Retromorphosis - Psalmus MortisEnglish
2·1 year agoI always like Angry Metal Guy’s reviews (not sure how independent this is, if the label sends a free copy and that incurs bias or whatever, you can check and decide). I also see 2 reviews from regular folks on Encyclopaedia Metallum. I don’t typically get too into reviews, so I don’t have much more to share, but I do also see No Clean Singing has a review up.

2·1 year agoOoh sweet, I didn’t know about the making-ofs, I’ll have to check them out. Gammageddon and Nuklearth are definitely in regular rotation on my stereo, I just need a little more time with this one to get to know it

3·1 year agoNeither had I! Exposure has been the best part of doing this pretty thorough review every week (at least whatever I can find on Encyclopaedia Metallum). Afflicta in particular is tremendous.
TIL! Thanks for the factoid: my dogs have definitely gotten covered in burdock plenty of times too, maybe I should invent something about it

2·1 year agoAgreed. If it were some mid-tier band, meh these things happen. But Obscura are kinda titans. So I’m revisiting the other band members’ side projects: Obsidious, Alkaloid, looking forward to Retromorphosis, etc.

2·1 year agoSteffen Kummerer (vocals, guitar) did a plagiarism. Christian Münzner (guitar) and Alex Weber (bass) quit in late 2024, citing “creative differences”. Then on the album, Steffen included music his departed bandmates had written, after agreeing not to.

2·2 years agoMm Carnosus day arrived at last, excellent stuff. Also, new Infant Annihilator was fun, but for me really just a teaser for the upcoming album.

2·2 years agoHell yeah. And I usually struggle with instrumental metal, but these guys are a reliable exception

Belated addition: Infestuous - Unfathomable Mutagenic Abominations [EP] (USA-OH) (brutal tech)
