Dull Men's Club@lemmy.world•Got a new glasses prescription today.
5·7 months agoYou know how every old person you know has to hold things further and further away to read them the older they get? This is presbyopia, or “age-related farsightedness.” It eventually happens to everyone, it’s just part of getting older. Basically the lens in your eye stiffens over time because of a protein deficiency, and that causes the light to refract at the wrong point in your eye. Folks with otherwise acceptable vision typically correct it with reading glasses
Ah! Shoulda done more research, my bad. My first MacBook came with Leopard on it and I eventually upgraded it to Snow Leopard. I think that computer eventually died before I could upgrade it any further than that
That’s because Apple hasn’t charged for OSX/MacOS updates since 2013 with OSX 10.9
Edit: I also don’t think they were ever $99. I upgraded from 10.5 to 10.6 back in 2009 and I think it was only like $30, and they had to ship me a disc with the update so it’s not like they didn’t have any overhead they had to pay for
I actually don’t mind the way durian tastes, but I find the smell to be off-putting enough that the whole experience is ruined for me

4·10 months agoWe sprung for the “premium seating.” It was only maybe $10 more per person, but you get seated along the diving cliff so you can see the show better. And because we were one of the last tables of the night, we got lucky and ended up with the best table in the place, right next to/above the cliff divers. I’m not really sure how best to describe it, so it’s a good thing I have video evidence 😅

Stephen Miller and Tom Homan. Two guys that have been pretty much entirely responsible for the immigration policies the Trump administration has adopted as of late

Coffee@lemmy.world•Is there any chance of getting non-American Chemex-style coffee filters?
2·1 year agoDefinitely far-fetched! But who knows, maybe it’ll work out 🤷♂️
Another commenter below got me thinking, maybe you could try putting a V60 filter inside one of those metal mesh filters. Might not get quite as much filtration as the thicker Chemex paper, but you wouldn’t have to use two filters for every brew, and it would support the filter and keep it from breaking. I also think there are thicker V60 filters out there, so you might be able to get pretty close

Coffee@lemmy.world•Is there any chance of getting non-American Chemex-style coffee filters?
5·1 year agoThe metal filters let all the oils and stuff through into the cup, so if you’re looking for the same profile you get from paper filters you might be disappointed. Not to say it makes bad coffee! Just different
Though, that makes me wonder, maybe you can put a paper V60 filter into the metal filter to get similar filtration and not have to worry about the thinner paper breaking

Very cool, I’ll be checking that out! Thanks!!
