No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What's the best free version of word?English
2·1 day agoI’ll have to give that a try. I’ve been doing a lot of markdown work recently, so it already looks intuitive.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What's the best free version of word?English
23·2 days agoIf you want something that looks amazing but takes a little extra effort to learn, LaTeX is great.
If you want intuitive, LibreOffice should do everything you need.

Android@programming.dev•Google confirms 'high-friction' sideloading flow is coming to AndroidEnglish
1411·2 days agoIt’s called installing, not sideloading.
You don’t sideload an app on your PC, you install it. The language they’re using is specifically to demonize a normal function of a phone, so they can take control.
Most migraine medications were made for something else (e.g. blood pressure), and were discovered to help with migraine symptoms in some people.

Privacy@programming.dev•LocalSend – Open-Source AirDrop Alternative (Offline & Cross-Platform)English
31·2 days agoOne advantage of LocalSend is that you can transfer files to other people’s devices on your network with no more setup than installing the app (and connecting to the same network).
The person must approve the transfer, and by default, only that transfer is approved. You don’t need to remember to unpair the device after.
You can set up a permanent automatic transfer approval for everyone (not recommended) or just selected devices.

Maybe they wouldn’t have started this if elected, but I’d they’re happy to continue it, I don’t want to see them elected ever again.

Technology@lemmy.world•Your Brain on ChatGPT: Accumulation of Cognitive Debt when Using an AI Assistant for Essay Writing Task – MIT Media LabEnglish
31·4 days agoI recently used AI to make a plugin using a programming language I’ve never used before.
When working on similar projects in the past, I get to the end with a new understanding of the language and its capabilities.
This time, I think it took about 10% longer, was no easier overall (although each step seemed easier to start), and I feel like I still have basically no understanding of the language or its features.
If I were to start over, I’d still have to start learning from the beginning. AI has saved me no time at all, and the plugin still has plenty of subtle bugs I need to remove by hand.

2·7 days agoAre you sure that video isn’t playing at 2x speed?
I’ve seen videos of bullet trains before, and while they’re fast, I don’t think they’re that fast.
Replace “the economy” with “rich people’s mega-yacht money” in every instance and it all makes a lot more sense.
My partner is non-binary, so this search wouldn’t work on them.

UpScrolled looks like a promising alternative.
