There is a reason why Canada signed a 100 year defense pact with them, and it wasn’t Canada being totally selfless.
Ukraine has given the formula for a much smaller populated country to resist an aggressive neighbor with a massive military and economy and far larger population.
Drone warfare is the answer and for a fraction of the cost of the US military Canada can leapfrog them in capability and truly secure the country from any invasion.
Nuclear weapons as well, Canada has no choice but to slowly move forward to gaining these weapons as the ultimate deterrent. Being threatend by the US of a military occupation and annexation is enough to justify this. I never in my life thought I would have even considered any of this.
Trumps goal was to change the world order, which is a strange goal when his country was alone at the top, now he has weakened America to a point they will no longer be the world’s super power. The debt crisis is just beginning and Americans are in for some very tough years ahead.

With the USA trying to get Alberta to separate, and spreading lies about how unfree Canadians are compared with Americans and how many would love to join the USA, while constantly threatening to annex our entire country, attempting to crush it economically, and claiming Canada isn’t a real country anyway, it certainly feels like the USA is our Russia. It’s certainly our most immediately dangerous enemy right now.
What gets me is that mainstream media seems incapable of fact-checking or pushing back against false claims when showcasing seppies and I don’t know why.

Last I checked, the processing time for all those applications was 33 months because so many people were applying.
I actually have one. It was a couple of generations back though.
According to this it seems that it’s transitive so it goes back all the way to the 1600’s as long as they were a Canadian citizen or (before either 1947 or 1949, depending on province) a British subject living in Canada.
This rule also applies to you if you were born to someone who became Canadian because of these rule changes.

The aberration really was been post-WW2 period where Canada and the US were close allies.
Most of the history had been mostly friendl-ish neighbors.
The same can be said, to even an higher degree, about most other NATO countries. Some European countries spent the best part of the last 1000 years in conflict to what are now their closest allies.
