Heres some internet history for the 25th anniversary of 9/11. One of the earliest memes posted online about the attack. Often called “9/11 what if they’d missed” or “9/11 the happy ending.”
There’s were other versions of it I remember that had the towers bending in multiple directions as other planes attempt to fly into them but they seem to be lost media, aka the Matrix bullet dodging trope.
It was a bit harder to find than I’d assume it’d be. Someone had saved it on youtube and I’ve converted it to gif for posterities sake. The original was probably in Flash which is why it’s so difficult to find these days.
I’ve probably had this .gif for 20 years, and I finally have a reason to share it!

My favorite, The Onion classic.

It’s funny in two ways because, like Subway, it’s tasteless!
Man I miss when Subway used to be affordable.
If you remember those times you’re probably thinking of a version of subway that was at least partially edible.
I’m pretty sure I remember their sandwiches tasted like they were made of food at one point.
$5 foot longs are now $10 and have never been a foot long.
9/11 jokes are plane wrong
No planes in this one. In fact, you have to have lived through Duhbya’s presidency or be very knowledgable of it to understand the humor this subtle 20-oughts meme.

There was an ad campaign for Flexon eyeglass frames that showed a plane flying past a skyscraper while the sky scraper bends out of the way.

My wife had it in her optometry practice on 9/11. She had her staff yank it out and stash it in the back office.
My favorite
9/11 jokes aren’t funny. The other two are good though.
Get the fuck over it.
Would you like the joke explained to you?
lol

Fun fact, this was the Garfield comic on 9/10.

Sir, a second Garfield has hit the Tower
Garfield orchestrated the worst terrorist attack in history
So they knew about it the day before and it still happened? Incompetence!
Worst? Seems like it worked pretty fucking well.
Also Kermit was involved

Ouch, a valentines days 9/11 card
Happy 9 November to all those celebrating
That would be Kristallnacht, the original 9/11
looking at Germany rn there might be some people there actually celebrating Kristallnacht …

jesus christ it all makes sense now

Obligatory

From around 2007
Fun fact: In Spain 9/11 is called “11S” and in Poland simply “WTC attacks” (because there’s no fun way to shorten dates in Polish) .
Yeah I’ve heard most countries flip the month and day around so it’d be 11/9 so 9/11 sounds strange to them since it’d be implying November 9th rather than September 11th.
Have you more fun 9/11 facts?
I only have two.
And a half.
It’s been a bit funny seeing the shift. 9/11 jokes were fairly common amongst edgy doofuses for decades, but now they’re considered slightly more uncouth for some reason. Not sure what the deal is. The typical joke formula flipped. Time+tragedy=irreverance? Glad for the people affected by 9/11, but it’s perplexing
I thought the younger generations were even more radical about 9/11 jokes?
It might be a reaction to that, in that case. These generation wars are such exhausting nonsense.
We didn’t take covid deaths seriously, so why should we care about 9/11?
Fuck Covid deaths. All my homies hate covid deaths
That’s because of the 22,3 year rule. Tragedies become funny to joke about without shockhumor after about 22,3 years. Like aids became socially funny ~20 years ago and 9/11 became socially acceptable to joke about just shortly after COVID.
It’s uncanning how accurate Matt and Trey’s documentary was. As usual.
I mean to be fair people were joking about 9/11 way before that time, even South Park made fun of 9/11 a few years later when they made that 9/11 conspiracy episode.
Yes, but South Park always makes edgy, socially unacceptable jokes. Making fun of 9/11 is more or less socially acceptable now.
Pearl clutching from right wingers who want us to forget they were whining about masks while 4000 people were dying from Covid every fucking day for months
