Our government supplies us with a map already. No need for a third party.
And imo the even greater https://firesmoke.ca/ site.
This does not seem to be using a reliable data source. CIFFC is reporting 154 active fires in Manitoba. https://ciffc.net/ This site is reporting…8 maybe?
FIRMS is available directly without going through whatever the hell this site is. https://firms.modaps.eosdis.nasa.gov/map/
Somethings wrong with the data pulled in here. It’s showing a couple of wildfires in a nearby city which I can actively confirm are not currently on fire. Maybe it’s picking up brush fire or factories or something?
FIRMS relies on a few satellites. MODIS and VIRS are the ones I remember off hand. They monitor specific wavelengths of infrared. So yes major industrial processes like metal smelters, coal plants, pulp mills, refineries etc will sometimes show up depending on what’s going on.
