Also these are manufactured in China mainly which don’t give a damn about regulations or have any protections for what we’re facing currently
The problem is partially in capacity.
The manufacturers COULD build more capacity, but if the demand drops suddenly they’d never recoup the costs.

Exactly. They know this demand will disappear. They know this bubble will burst. And it will do so probably before they even break ground on a new manufacturing facility, definitely before it is completed. These types of facilities don’t get built in a few months, they take years.
RAM manufacturers have a long long history of artificially inflating prices. We really need more manufacturers, and there’s never been a better, more lucrative time.
I feel for Framework. They’re not a big company like Apple with any sway. Even Apple had to raise its prices, which speaks to the state of the market.

When I bought my framework I was like “ram is cheap might as well max it out”. $220 (after tax) for 96gb, a couple months later the insanity started. I have no possible use for this much ram and I’m torn between getting a little extra money selling one of the sticks or holding onto it under the assumption I’ll never be able to afford any again. Between that and the size of nvmes I got my laptop is worth like 50% more now than it was new this is ridiculous
Purchased 4x48GB DDR5 for like 660€ early last year. I’ll never used 192GB.
I know I bought 96GB of ecc ram last summer for ~$500. Seemed expensive at the time but it looked like prices were going up so I decided to over buy. I’d also never bought ecc before so I wasn’t sure if that was over paying. That same kit is over $4k today if you can find it…
I think I’ve gone over 64 GB only a handful of times. Mostly when adding a ton of pics to immich or documents to paperless-ngx. I keep adding more services though so I’ll get some more utilization out of it.
So fucking nuts. A couple years ago I found and bought a new pair of Corsair vengeance 16GB ddr4 ram sticks for $5 from a bin store. That same 32GB set is like $226 on Amazon.
This AI and monopolized ram bullshit has screwed up so much for consumers and it just keeps getting worse.
Man I found a 32 GB lpcamm2 module for like 250 when I pre ordered a framework in April. It was cheaper than sodimms at the time. I’ve kept an eye on it since then and it went to over 400 before disappearing from amazon entirely.
