You may like the Mechsploitation genre, and specifically “Warhound” by Kallidora Rho. It’s less about being one with the mecha, and more about the dehumanization, loss of self, and abuse, though.

Try Armored Core 6. In that game you’re the hound of handler Walter, piloting a hyper agile combat mech on a doomed planet controlled by corporate factions fighting for dominion.

I’m running a Beam Saber game, and we’re pretty much doing this. Our players are:

A super spy trained from birth to be the perfect weapon, full of gender dysphoria she’s denying

A mechsploitation hound, abandoned by its owners after its handler died, trying to find meaning in bloodshed

A genetically engineered hedgehog person from a line of knights, berating himself for failing to live up to expectations

A living airplane, kidnapped from the wild and forced into sapience, struggling to prove its kind deserve rights

The living airplane has an NPC pilot, and their name is Ace. They wanna be a mech fighting superhero! They have a neural link with their airplane/best friend.
