I always wonder who is behind those one or two downvotes on things like this. Is it Miller or Bannon? I could see them trying to go onto lemmy to see what the left is thinking. It cracks me up. Maybe it’s eric?
Mystery down votes are a common internet phenomenon that, despite knowing it’s widespread, I’ve never quite been able to figure out. Accidental downvotes do happen, especially on mobile in my experience, but at nowhere near a frequent enough rate to explain down votes in the wild. In this case, there’s many possibilities! Are the downvotes from MAGAssholes? Is someone just blanket down voting because they don’t like the instance? Because they don’t like the community? Because they don’t like the user posting it? Because they don’t like the BBC as a source? Because they downvote every US politics thing they come across? Who knows!
In this case, butthurt conservatives, it would seem.
Some people also just don’t like meme type replies, or low-effort posts, or any number of things that might not be related to the content.
There are also mass downvoters, but people have a tendency to try to extract simple patterns out of a sea of different people doing different things.
Usually if I have had a disagreement with somebody, where my facts were correct, they are mad maybe, so then they go downvote my posts or comments as some weird retaliation

HE votes by mail. He’s nothing but a two-bit grifter who belongs on the side of the street. He’s racist, misogynistic, a liar, and a thief. Fuck him!
“You ought to straighten out your press, because you know what? A country can never be great with a dishonest press.”
Mr. Broken Clock over here
I know it’s an impossibility, but imagine the collective strength of a unified press who refuse to give him a platform.
Trump got red mad when confronted by a real interview.
I am sick of hearing about rigged elections tbh. I heard it in the 2000s, in the 2010s, and the 2020s. It is always something! If the elections were rigged at scale, the opposing parties would not keep cycling and winning. Of course, gerrymandering is an issue and can throw off elections, but a state can only gerrymander so much if the population just abruptly flips. Also, WHAT HAPPENED TO RESPECTABLE CANDIDATES LIKE JFK AND THEODORE ROOSEVELT?! WHY do we keep voting for people like this?! Bruh. Something in the system needs to change.
