I’m hungarian. It still feels like a fever-dream that we might get back on the right direction again. Seeing the state television larping as a non biased is so weird, like I’m living the 2000s again.
It’s a clever loan also. If I recall: if Ukraine can’t pay back the loan, the repayment will come from frozen Russian assets.
Let’s see how this all turns out. While it’s certainly positive that Putin’s little mouse is gone, that doesn’t make the new dude some kind of messiah. He used to be in Orban’s party after all. I sure hope he turns out OK but I’ll reserve judgement until i see him actually govern.
I definitely am not expecting a messiah, but he seems to have taken a strong pro-European stance, and his victory comes at the expense of someone who was quite definitely dismantling Hungarian democracy.
Sometimes, when the enemy is AfD, you’re relieved to see even the CDU crush them, sort of energy, you know?
If he moves from screwing over Hungary, Ukraine and all of the EU, to just screwing over Hungary, I call that a win
