The pencils were a bit like crayons and writing sucked, but it did kinda work. I just checked, you can get pens with food dye for decorating.
I actually looked up edible paper online some years back and it is a thing. Might be messy though.
Why not rice paper? The Chinese have had it for centuries and shouldn’t be too hard to find locally.
