I’m all in favour of choosing a new date to celebrate a real Australia Day they doesn’t mark the beginning of a genocide.
My thoughts on the 26th: I’ve somehow got to juggle three birthdays on that date: my sister, and two friends.
Sounds hectic , hope you survived it all!
Change it. There is zero good reason to keep the date, we can have a day off another day and still get what we want out of it.
We really need more days off in genera, and to space them out better.
1st Friday in Feb, gets rid of the issue with a large group being unhappy with the date, and gets rid of one more potential midweek holiday, who wants to celebrate with work the next day? Part timers, contractors, casuals and hospo workers are always gonna risk a work day the next day, but we can at least solve it for full timers.
Move it back a bit more when the weathers cooler so we can enjoy a day out.
I mean, it’s raining here in Perth right now …
That would be nice, I think it got to 38 here today in Melb and meant to be around mid 40’s tomorrow.
