Strictly speaking, yeah, but…in the US, we have the Monroe Doctrine which has been used to justify maintaining United Statesian hegemony in Central and South America.
IMO, identifying people who live in the Americas with the term America perpetuates the Monroe Doctrine. And actually, I would vehemently support renaming the continents of North America and South America to something less…cursed.
