Ok, I’m going to try and wipe it and put a lightweight Linux system on it, it’s a lot cheaper than a 4B pi (although a 3B may be possible), will see how it goes

3·20 hours agoI tried using the pi 2B again, I’ve been using the GUI & browser to show jellyfin and the interface is so sluggish I think it would be hard to use regardless of the ability to play videos

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Stick PC for a media client?English
3·23 hours agoOk interesting it looks like it does do 1080p H264 hardware decoding https://cdn-shop.adafruit.com/pdfs/raspberrypi2modelb.pdf
Pretty sure I tested mine on video playback and it struggled (quite badly), but I didn’t check the playback format, maybe if you stick to the right codec then it works.
Do you know what number model it is? I tried using an old 2B but it was too slow and doesn’t have hardware decoding as far as I can tell. I’ve heard you need around 4B for media playback, but the price is not so great for a simple use like this. Stick PCs seemed to have some cheaper options, including hardware decoding, with the advantage of plugging straight into the HDMI port
Ok, I’ve been checking out some older ones for half the price (possibly used as well), the main requirement I’ve been checking is just hardware decoding, with a light weight Linux setup I think it should be sufficient.
The remote is worth considering, I might look into Bluetooth or RF based approaches as they are a bit more flexible than IR with positioning. Or even phone app based methods are possible
Thanks for the suggestions anyway ;)
I don’t get the complaining, sure some of the comics are only mildly amusing, but on the internet if something is not sufficiently amusing you can just go to the next thing, I don’t get the whining

Meh, it’s just another planted story in the media for a distraction & to create a fake image, and y’all are eating it up. The guy wears a diaper, stinks so bad to make people retch and is a pedophile

1·4 days agoWhy not sell some now and move to different asset classes? If you recognise risk then reducing that risk is one of the best things you can do
But no, here come the “time in the market…” and “stonks only go up…” brigade. Which actually contradicts the message of this article

Hopefully the Streisand effect has a bigger impact here than their (attempted) ban. The ban itself may infact be illegal, as mentioned later in the article

4·7 days agoI get what you’re saying in general, but I’m not sure why Bush Sr gets put in the same category. Sure there was a recession and scandal or two, but these were pretty minor overall, and it was followed soon after by one of the most successful economic periods in US history, it’s hard to argue his presidency was a disaster, and in the same context as Bush Jr and Trump

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•Is the AI Bubble Finally, Actually About to Burst? (w/ Ed Zitron)
6·9 days agoDefinitely think there’s some things to consider there. But I also wonder what the knock on effects for other asset classes will be like MMFs. Still, stonks (esp AI related, which has a fair weight in index funds) are probably not going to be great to hold when it does crack
Definitely agree, however if the client then ends up depending on AI for their plans and decisions you may end up with these models marking their own homework so to speak. You’ll get a totally unimaginative and generic product out the other end, if they manage to make a product at all that is

There’s not a single credible source to support that. He wrote a lot of stuff, but never wrote about Zionism. All the “sources” about him being pro zionist and saying Zionism and Judaism are the same are sketchy sources putting words in his mouth

Dammit, now I’m gonna see(/hear) that every time I restart a service
